How much of a performance gain is there by lowering the car?

Or if any?

I'm going to install H&R springs w/ Illuminas and add 19" wheels and tires. How will the ride height differ from my now stock 2K SE?

Thanks, T

A lot of performance gain on it. I believe getting the car lowered with struts is even better then getting just a rear sway bar, suspension wise. You better handling and also better looks also.

IMO everyone's first mod should be to drop their car.

Good performance gain handling wise. Lower center of gravity=better handling/cornering.

I felt a difference when I completed the entire suspension package; not just from lowering my car.

I know mine, after upgrading to Eibachs (still had factory shocks), was .2 sec faster than a I35, a couple other 5.5 gens and a Alty 3.5. All were stock auto's.

If you're going with 19" look for something in a lightweight wheel. In regards to your car having more "performance", I'd say it will perform the same, but it will handle much better, but it may launch better if you take your car to the track as it appears Audtatious can attest to.

HAHAHAHA! Agreed.....

All "performance" gains will be nominal, but the gains in handling and stability are awesome compared to stock. Unless you go to the skipad b4 & after, it'll be hard to give the improvements a value, but you WILL feel it in your ****!

Not sure if you meant gains in 0-60 times or the like, as those will be nil -but you should have very small gains in coefficient drag and braking performance due to the lowered profile of the car.
These of course will be almost impossible to detect, but you'll notice a significant improvement in the ability of the stiffer setup to resist nose-dive in heavy braking. Maybe a LITTLE better MPG on the hwy???? who knows....
Good tires will effect braking performance the most significantly behind the obvious brake component upgrades.

To me, this is STILL the best and most needed upgrade to our cars. Worth the money, and the Illuminas simply ROCK!

That's difenately what I attributed it to (doubt it was my driving skills). After upgrading to Eibachs, the front did not seem to raise up as much upon launch. Now that I have Illumina's, the front seems to keep an even lower profile than with the factory struts installed.

I got my H&R's($205) and Illumina's($408) installed for $150, and alignment was $69.95, for a grand total of $832.95
I have the setup that you are considering, 19" rims with spring/shock upgrade, and it vastly improves the "handling performance", as well as making the car look a hell of alot better. The drop is 1.4" in front, and 1.3" in back. The handling is great, and the ride is still very comfortable (compared to the stock SE suspension). You'll like this setup

All my parts were USED...

Progress springs: $100 shipped (6k miles on em)
Tokico HP struts: $165 shipped (10k on em)
Install by FASHIZL: $120 (but also a deal on some new Falkens, so it was less)

Yeah, I'm a bargain shopper... and proud of it...

Suspension mods are a must with the maxima.

Eibachs: ~$250
Illuminas: ~$450
Installation: $0 (Do it yourself, not hard, just takes time and an extra hand)

Also, don't forget to put in a rear sway bar. Very important for our car. I would say more important the the springs and shocks. Just remember to also use good, sticky tires. If you can't stick to the road, what good do these handling improvements do?

Theoretically, it should help highway/high speed performance. You're changing the aerodynamics of the car -- so the wind resistance will be changed for the better.

Maxspeed springs $90 ebay
Tokico Blues $290 ebay
Front Strut Tower Bar $15 ebay
Install free DIY

Total $395
It can be done cheaply and you might as well install the FSTB while you are at it. You will need some help with the install, I can't see anyone doing it alone. I have impact tools and that helped.

Some people travel or simply don't have time to DIY. I've done it before and I had rather pay someone to do work now.
