smoked out sidemarkers?

I know that clear sidemarkers are available for the Max, but I have a charcoal color, and I'm thinking that smoked out markers would look better with the color of the car. I couldn't find any, and I was wondering if they even exist, and if they do, if anyone has them installed and has some pics. Or, does anyone have the same charcoal color with the clear markers? Just wondering how it looks...Thanks.

No one makes them. It's a DIY job.

Check out Irish44j's Max. He got smoked markers that he did himself. IMO, looks SIK! Especially on a dark colored Max. Too bad my Max is white. Try and hit Irish up, I'm sure he can help you out.

thanx. can anyone provide me with a "how to"? I wouldn't want the markers to be strait up black, just a smoky grey that matches the color.

ummm...look at my sig in post #2. More pics on my cardomain page also.

How to? I used Night Shades tiniting paint. I smoked the stock amber and red corners. Remove them from the car, spray light coats. The more coats, the darker they get. I did 4 coats and actually wished I had stopped at 3.

Three Ques:

1. Yours looks pretty dark. Can you still see the lights through them?

2. It is possible to get a grey color when applying the tinting paint on amber and red?

3. Will the lights pass inspection? I'm guessing not...

1 - yup the lights can still be seen, but they're only about 50% as bright as stock. They'd be brighter if you used fewer coats than I did.

2 - 1 or 2 light coats might look grey if you tinted some clear corners. I'm not sure about getting a grey color on the stock corners.

3 - Not sure. When I shine a flashlight on them in the dark, there seems to be a small amount of the 'reflective' property of the untinted lens. I've not been stopped and where I live, we don't have inspections.

im gonna do this with clear ones to try and get the grey effect for the grey luster. i was thinking 2 coats would be good, from my past experience with this. maybe 3. as to whether they will pass inspection or not? just buy some clears and smoke those (since they wont pass anyway), and when it comes time to get inspection done, if you dont know someone who can do it, just switch back to stock.

Good idea, i think I'll get some clears. Paste some pics if you get this done and let us know how many coats get the best look.
Thanx.

You can use any automotive enamel color.....When I re-did them I used gloss black dupli-color enamel to match the car...shine-through is fine, as Blues said. I mean, really you could use "gray lustre" paint or whatever and it would come out good.
