Taillight replacement on an '02...

Hey guys,

Stupid question, I know, but I'm just curious if the 2000/2001 GXE/GLE all-red taillights will hook up DIRECTLY to my '02 SE. I don't like the Altezza-looking chrome SE tails on my car, and I think the plain red ones fit much better. I've also posted a WTB or WTT in the 5th gen parts classifieds, so if you're interested, go check it out. My current tails are in good shape, no visible blemishes.

Thanks,
Brian

Yeah they're a direct swap. I swapped my 02 SE tails for a set of 00 SE tails no problem. BTW your sig pic is nice.

to everything he said... did the same thing...

Although, I'd tend to think that since you have a sterling mist, the stock chrome tails might look better than the dark 01 SE tails... esp since I saw how it turned out when AE SEoulChild and I switched (he has a sterling mist AE)... but then again, since you're asking you obviously don't think so... haha....

No, I DO agree with you that the dark SE tails would look worse on my Sterling Mist. But I'm not asking about those, I'm asking about the all-red '00 and '01 GXE/GLE ones, these ones:

I knew that... I was responding to another suggestion by Zippin with regards to the dark SE tails, not what you had posted... and I also meant that since ya wanna get rid of the stock tails, you obviously didn't like em, even though some people do like em with the sterling mist.... sorry for the confusion...

a lot of people say its a direct swap, BUT from my experience 3 weeks ago, it depends what comes with your tail lights. if you just get the tail light lens, no bulbs, no wiring, only 2 of the bulbs will fit in the housing, the signal light bulb will not fit. the piece where the bulb sits, and the bulb, are different. i got mine aftermarket, one was TYC, the other was DEPO. i also had to call nissan and order wiring harness's for the 01 so things matched up.

so in short, if you just get the lens's, you need the wiring harness for that year. if you get the lenses WITH the harnesses, it will be plug and play, but you will still need to go buy another bulb for the signal lights. im in NJ too, about 30 minutes from you, so if you need help or have any questions or wanna see what im talkin about, just lemme know.

Good point... mine was a direct swap with another .Org member straight off the car, harnesses and everything... so it was plug n play....

I guess I should really be looking for the ones with the harness then. Thanks for the info. If I get the lights, I'll be installing them when I come home for Winter break (sometime in late Dec. to late January). I might also be doing DDE's and other stuff at the time. So I'll let ya know, thanks for the help.

I have a right tail light from my 01 GXE (the all red). I sold the other one though. It's kinda just sitting in my basement in Long Island, so if you want to come by and pick it up, I'll just give it to you for free. Though I'm not often there, as I live in Minnesota and Long Island is my parent's basement.
