Puppetmaster,
Thanks so much for your help about getting pictures posted. Here is my question. About nine months ago I was getting the P0420 code. Took it to the dealer and he re-flashed the ECM. All good until about two weeks ago the same P0420 code appeared. The SES light went out by itself two days ago. I recorded the mileage when the light went out. I will see how long before it comes back. At this point I am getting ready to install the OS2 sim. I have been reading the many posts and looking at the pictures in the forum. I am attaching a picture of my sensors. I labeled them what I believe to be correct. Could you please take a look at the picture to see if I labeled them correctly. Looking at the 4 sensors from left to right I believe the 3rd sensor is the one for the P0420 code. The 2nd sensor is for the P0430 code. See the attached picture.

code 420
Do these things really work? My 01 max has had the engine light on for 2 years. Now I need to go through inspection, and it will fail in NJ if the engine light is on. they also plug into the OBD 2 port. Is this gadget for real?

this is for real, but you are the one to decide what solution will make it work. You can certainly try going the 02 sim first, because it's the least costly. I had done the same, and it worked for me for like a month, then came back on. My car was due for emissions in 2 months....and I decided to trade.
So the p0420 code [bank 1], are they the secondary 02 sensors, or the primary o2 sensors? Because the way i see it (and please correct me if im wrong) if they are the primary sensors, the need to be replaced, and if they are the secondary sensors, an 02 simulator can be used to kick the SES light off.
Now, if they are the primary sensors, since there are 2, how would u know which one to replace...or both?
