Blower makes weird noise.. :(

Lately i've noticed that when I have my heat on low, the blower makes like a weird noise as if some kind of wire is like preventing it from spinning properly. But when its on high or med. I don't hear it. Weirdddddd.. anyone had this problem? Is there a recall on this kinda thing? Maybe the blower is about to give up on me?

In-cabin filter

Try cleaning-out the in-cabin air filter/ port.

I get all sorts of crud in there in mine, and it consistently gets caught in the blower and makes odd noises.

Other than that - you're screwed!

Don't know for sure about autzone....but doubtful.
Stealer will get you for $50 + for the dual element carbon activated model.
It was a bite, but with the pollen and pollution here in the ATL, I found it worthwhile. Breathing fresh air in stop and go traffic is important to me and my sensitive nose.
I got screwed by Nissan when I bought the car -- they had some cheapo paper version in there that wasn't worth a ****e!
It got tossed quickly.

The box is a little bit tricky to access behind the glovebox - make SURE you don't disconnect the SRS plug when you do it....bad-bad-bad.

Directions are in the sticky HOW TO's somewhere, in .pdf.

I assume it's the same 'ticking' noise I had when I turned on the blower control button. Basically it's the motor behind that's at fault. No recall but there's a TSB(Blower Motor Noise) for this which describes to replace the motor($).

The dealer(OEM) to save money might not replace the motor assy but use insulation to reduce the noise. That happened to me. This occured within my warranty(2 years ago) and I went to the dealership to get it fixed. Instead, they placed insulation to reduce the noise. I demanded that they replace the motor assy but they said the motor is not completely defective. My blower motor still functions good.

I guess you're out of warranty. Maybe you can fix this yourself with some insulation. I would.

I'm not covered under warranty so what should I do? Can I show them the TSB and get it covered ? Or I gotta pay?

Bro, you will certaintly pay. The TSB will not cover you since you're out of warrranty. If you want ask the dealer for a quotation on the work or go to a local mechanic you trust or find info to do this yourself.

DON'T ORDER FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I had the same problem. Shop your local friendly neighborhood junk yards and you should be able to find one. It'll save you about 3 bills.

In my opinion, if it's your blower that's causing this "noise", don't waste your money on a new blower motor especially from the dealer. Like I said mine wasn't replaced, it works good and I can barely here the ticking noise even after 2 years. Ask your mechanic friend to install some insulation.

If your blower did fail completely then that's another story where you'd get a new one, equivalent or used from junk yard.

For basic "how-to", read and check your owners manual for your cabin filter. Replace it when it's required as per the instructions.

Since you got an '02 max, I think it be a very good idea to find and file all of the TSB's for that year and use them as reference in case something fails within your warranty.

Mine started making noise at 70k. by 85k, it was unbearable. Just spend the 65 bucks at a junkyard and get it over with. By the time you pay a mechanic to put a bandaid on it, you'll end up spending the same amount and it will still be wrong.

I'll give junkyard a shot and see what I can find. I'm gonna go look thru the owners manual and figure out how to clean/change the filter (hopefully that'll fix the noise). I would insulate it but like GBAUER said, it's better to just replace part and fix the problem rather then putting a temporary solution to it. Thanks a lot fellas.

By the way, for those of you who want to change the cabin filter, I found a site that sells them, you can order from here..

I had a problem with the blower motor on my 03, only it makes a ton of noise when it's on high. Dealer replaced under warranty...you might not be so lucky as you're prob out of warranty. But it definately made a similar noise...almost like there was something stuck in there.

haha yeah get a new car with more problems to deal with, my blower does the same thing, but not all the time. Particularly when it's very cold when i first start it, then it quiets. Sometimes it's intermittent during a trip. I have just gotten used to it. Plus my Bose still works, so i'm all set.

I took mine apart and found out it was the bearings. POS's! They didn't last very long.

God damn it, a new blower costs about 800 bucks. Although my car did not come with a in-cabin filter, but i've ordered one thru courtesy nissan for 50 bux. I guess i'll use this until it completely breaks down... like they say, if it aint broke don't fix it. lol
