Will SES light ever turn off???

Hey my ses light is on, and im pretty sure i know why. my gas cap was loose and the ses light came on well after i had left the gas station. but now i have fixed it and the light remains on. will it fix it self and shut off?

my ses light will FOREVER be there....im actually considering going to the dealership to get it checked out. our 2000's are SES prone.

might want to consider that there may be another issue than a loose gas cap. if that was the issue, the ecu will cycle out the codes after a certain number of starts and miles driven unless you have it reset by an obd2 diagnostic tool. if i were, i would have the code pulled just to make sure.

Yeah. SES lights will not turn on unless a signal is triggered. Your best bet is to go to Autozone and have the codes pulled for free.

Depending on how long you've had the car (and if you got the notice which Nissan forgot to send me) it may be an 02 sensor discrepancy issue which the dealer will fix for free. Mine was on for like 4 months after I put my intake in, and it turned out to be b/c of the faulty O2 programming...check it out at Autozone first though.

mine was on for about 1000 miles, then it went away. if you ignore it long enough it will magically go away. like Hitler's territorial expansion into eastern europe, just put off warning indicators until later...

yes the check engine light will go off--but the car has to do certain checks of the evap system in order for it to turn off. normally it should not take that long for the evap system but sometimes they are a *****-if you have any questions just hit me up at bgardezy@yahoo.com i have a 2000 max and i work at a nissan dealer.

as bensmax said, it just takes time and mileage. Come down to the central florida meet (check the southeast regional forum) and help the CEL go away....
