HID THEFT? How to prevent and what to do?

Before I got my Maxima two weeks ago I never realized the problem of such petty theft. How is this actually done when you lock your vehicle and the hood is locked? How do I prevent something like this from happening to my vehicle? I know there is a TSB on the Hid lights but I dont know what a TSB does for an owner? Usually in the past if there is a recall on something i have taken my YUKON in to get the problem resolved.....is it the same with TSBs?
THANKS

Judging by your location, I don't think you need to be too concerned.

When I move back to Santa Barbara California there may be a concern. So do I need to see the dealer for the kit? Will there be an expense for the kit?

but True.

"If they want it they will get it" I would prob get the Dots. All you can do is garage it and watch where you park.

I don't think Nissan has rolled out the Data Dots recall anywhere except the Northeast. I may be wrong though since I don't work for Nissan anymore. You can still get it done, but it may cost you. If anyone has gotten this procedure done outside of the Northeast, correct me on this one.
To answer you question about how: nothing has to be unlocked or opend, it can all be done with a screwdriver or crowbar. Nuff said. Data Dots will slow them down because they secure the lights to the car better than the original design. But on the other hand, thieves will just rip up the car more.

I don't know if all dealers are equipped to do the datadots recall outside of the Northeast (tri-state area). If you are moving to one of these states -- NY, NJ and CT -- you better get it done. The job takes about 2 hours and I think is worth it (I got my free due to the recall). I also heard parts of FL and CA have been hit with HID thefts.

Yeah, I've heard of isolated instances of HID theft in the Miami, Chicago and San Francisco areas. But nowhere near the frequency of the NYC metropolitan area and I havent heard of his really occurring in So Cal at all.

IIRC, Nismo is correct. Outsided of the Northeast and southern New England, 5.5G Maxima owners will have to pay for data dots. But for certain.
