put my y-pipe in today

i got my y-pipe for my 2k se, and it was well worth the money. i got a wsp and installation was pretty easy, made easier to the fact that i have air tools at my shop. well it sounds great, and runs better, couldn't ask for more. by the way if someone could tell me how to post up a video i will of the exhaust sound, it's wonderful.

Awesome, man. I can't wait to hear it. Lance said you guys might go cruising tonight, but I am going to the arenacross race in Guthrie, but when I get back I will give Lance a call and see if you are still up around OKC somewhere, and try to meet up.

I got a SS WSP too, what did you do about the cross member under the car?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that the WSP Y-pipe for the 3.0L has the same fitment problems (banging on the crossmember) that the Y-pipe for the 3.5L has.

Didn't notice that he was a 3.0L, had to take mine off cause of the banging.

had no fitment issues, bolted right up. well worth the time to do it and was kind of fun, by the way maxima's sound horrible on open y-pipe and even worse open manifolds, but since i had everything off i couldn't resist trying it to hear it, anyone know how to post a video?

Is there a brand of y-pipe without fitment issues for the 3.5L?

I took mine off temporarily until I can overcome my laziness to put washers in between the crossmember and the bottom of the car.

So what type of power gains did you think you got out of it? I am thinking about the very same setup as well. Do you have any other mods on the car? Any info would be helpful since the same would apply to me... thanks!

the other mods on my car are that i have full sythetic tranny fluid, and a cone filter. i run nothing but full synthetic motor oil as well. from what i can tell the gains are in the low to mid range, which is very nice. it pulls evenly through the range now and it sounds a lot better. i want to give it a few more days for the computer to fully adjust and all. also on monday i am having a new cat back put in with 2.5" pipe so that will help out too.

wow it really takes 3 days for your ecu to learn that??? can't you do something like unplug the negaitve cable from your battery for like 10 minutes then attach it again and then start it up? Doesn't that reset the ecu? Would that work faster or will it really take a few days? anyone else notice that too?

So it makes that much of a difference huh... I know we have had many threads asking this before, but the gains are definitley noticable up to the 18-20 hp that they claim.

Maybe if it was OBD I, but everything after 1996 is OBD II and a lot of cars, including Maximas, ECUs won't reset by unplugging the battery cable. You have to do a sequence with the ignition and gas pedal. I'm sure it's on the org somewhere. I printed it out and keep it in my car. And then they take a few days to adjust all the settings by reading all the sensors and by your driving style.

i unplugged my battery before i did the install. so it was disconected for about 3 hours (btw, it takes longer then 10 minutes to reset the ECU)
it just takes the ECU a few days to learn the new mod.

2000 and 2001 ECU reset .... disconect battery
2002 and 2003 ECU reset .... the sequence (because it has drive by wire system)

anything that effects what the ECU controls. if you are increasing the amount of air (with an intake) then the ECU has to be reset so it can learn this and change the air/fuel mixture. if you dont reset it then the ECU is still sending fuel based on stored data (less air flow). when you install any exhaust component then there is less backpressure. the engine does not have to work as hard to push the exhaust in the cylinder out the exhaust valve.
you dont need to reset it for an UDP since that is completely mechanical (not something electronic that the ECU controls)

because the stock ECU has value limits built into it. with headers the ECU is not able to change the mixture as much as it needs to be.
