ABS, TCS & SLIP Light Lit

I just had these lights on my dash light up on start and stay on. The car seemed to drive fine but then I only went a short distance and at less than 60 kph. I was doing some errands. I parked the car for about 1/2 an hour do do some shopping came back and started her up again. This time the lights went out.

It's pretty cold today, -20c. Should I be worried? No SES light came on.

do you know what the month/year build your AE is? i am asking because everytime i have seen someone post them combination it has been their coils wheter in 4th gen or the 5th gen forum. you may have an early build ae that has the old coils which has a very high failure rate. 99,00 and early build 01 have the old coils.

Sloppymax: Hey quit scaring him.

If it went off, it was probably a fluke. I've had something similar. The car just needed to reboot (like your computer). There was a glitch.

If it happens again you may have some bad sensors, or fuses.

i am not attempting to scare him/her. i am giving him/her a realistic break down. are you one of those people that when the light comes on, you just drive around hoping the car will fix itself? there have been instances where an ecu would give out a false code due to a wiring problem but it is extremely rare. automobile ecus do not need to reboot/flash unless a tolerance needed to be changed like in the instance of an update for the maf or secondary o2 sensors that was released by nissan via the consult 2.

Thanks for the feedback guys. How do I determine when my car was built? I'm thinking it's a fairly early build since I bought it new late in October '00.

The common item in the ABS and traction control systems is the wheel speed sensor.
Most likely one has failed which causes both systems to shut down.
It's an easy fix once you determine which wheel's sensor has failed.
You'll have to get the car's diagnostic port scanned to see which one it is.
Perhaps Autozone can help you out there, if not your going to have to visit you local Nissan dealer.

it could also be low battery voltage from the cold.

OK, the build date is 09/00. Does that make it an early build?

Its a wheel sensor, i have the same three lights on my mom's AE. I just have never gotten around to going to the dealer.

Autozone cant tell you which sensor it is, the dealer has a tool to narrow down exactly which wheel sensor is bad.

How much is it to replace the wheel sensor, cause my AE does the same thing. I ran over a tire and instead of clearing it, the damn tire went bouncing around in my under carriage. Any info you might have on this wheel sensor would be much apprectiated.

Is the wheel sensor covered by the 5 yr power train warranty? Also, my SES light came on this afternoon. I checked the filler cap to make sure it's tight. Didn't seem loose but you never know. I guess I'll take it the dealer next week to be looked at.

I just had this almost exact same problem as described in the original post - had the car checked (2000 GXE) and two coils were bad. Had them all replaced Jan. 21 (under extended warranty) and problem has not resurfaced yet! My problem (service engine, tcs & slip warning lights on and sometimes ran rough) started intermittently then became more persisitent - that's when I took it in.

My SES light has been on since Sunday. If it is still on tomorrow I'll be making an appointment with my local Nissan dealer. It's time for an oil & lube anyway. I hate my dealer but I'm kind of stuck to go anywhere else. If it were just the oil change I would have gone to my local Mr. Lube. Sigh.

I haven't noticed any performance problems though. Both the ABS and TCS systems seem to be functioning properly too. Hopefully it won't be too painful of a visit.

Your problem sounds more severe than mine, but I recently had an unexplained ABS light. It came on one morning when it was extremely cold, but by the next day it was gone, and I haven't seen it since. I know my ABS still work thanks to an idiot who backed out onto a busy road in his Scion XB.

I still don't know for sure why the ABS light came on, but I know that it's gone now and that my ABS work just fine.

i had these 3 lights come on too. i was driving down the highway when the car felt like it slid. then all 3 lights came on. i had ABS cuz i tested on some snow. i tried to turn the car off for about 5 seconds, that did nothing. on the way home, ABS went out for a few minutes, but the other 2 stayed on. later i shut the car off and started it again about 30 seconds later, and it was ok. It hasnt come back on since then.

There is a diff between getting the ABS, TCS, SLIP and getting SES, TCS, SLIP. Your problem was coils, his will be the sensors.

In slippery driving conditions the ABS, TCS and SLIP lights MAY in fact come on and is normal. They should all reset after the next start. Loaded dyno emissions tests can also cause the same thing. Also....before replacing any front wheel speed sensor just make sure that the business end of the sensor is not just covered in "swarf". The sensor is magnetic as hell and tends to grab some of the magnetic particles/crap coming off the brakes and interfering with the sensors's ability to sense correct wheel speed.

After sitting in the garage for the weekend the SES light did not appear this morning. Still, the car is at the dealship and I asked them to pull the codes (if any). I'll post an update when I know more.

OK. Just got a call from the dealer. I have two problems. A bad ABS relay and the good old bad 02 sensor. Car's out of warranty so it's going to cost me ~$500 CDN to get it all fixed.

Forgot to post the codes! Anyway no code for the ABS relay. I decided not to replace it right now as the problem isn't persistent. The 02 sensor code is P0135

just had this on my 2001 i30
did the ground the pins thing and it said front left sensor
I went to take it out, the bolt holding it in place snapped, then i could not remove the sensor, had to break it apart piece by piece the rust was so bad it fused the sensor to the metal
Took me a few hours to get it out. Replacement sensors were pricy, i found one on clearance for like 15$ for a 2003 maxima, everywhere i looked it said it's not compatible with a 2001 i30
Long story short it is compatible the connection is the same and the sensor itself is the same, only difference i saw was the rubber was a little different and the wire was slightly longer, i secured it with zipties to be sure
plug the battery back in, start the car, no more lights! ABS is back. since the bolt snapped i figured i have to at least RTV the new sensor in, but once you put the new one in, the thing is so snug in there there's no way it's coming out.
anyone having issues with a Q45 or J30 where the sensors are like 600$ i'm sure you could cut the wires and sauder a new sensor into place for much much less than buying a new one, i'm somewhat sure all Nissans of that era used the same 2 wire system
