Need opinion on strut/spring combo...

Currently running Maxspeed and stock struts. Had them on for a good 20K and there is becoming more and more bounciness and floating as if the struts are going out. I've narrowed it down to the following purchase options:
1. BuyTokico Illuminas and keep Maxspeeds
2. Buy both Tokico Illuminas and Tein H-Tech
3. BuyTokico Blues and Progress Springs
4. Any suggestions?

*Already read the poll, but still undecided.
Thanks for the inputs.

Well... do ya want to drop it more? Do ya weigh ride quality or looks more? Does a lower drop means a better look to you? Where do ya consider handling? There are many factors here and we know that everyone has different opinions, so I don't see how this thread is really gonna give ya any more info to help ya decide

Anyways.... maybe you should just try replacing the struts first... either with Illuminas (if ya need adjustability) or HPs... then if ya feel ya wanna drop it more get a lower spring. This is all if ya don't care to have to pull on and off the suspension every month to try something new.

Another thing ya could try is to find some local .org guys with different set-ups and ride around with them to see what ya like... I think that's the best thing to do... .

Wanna go a lil' lower and improve the ride quality. I'm leanin' towards Tokico Illuminasand Tein H-Tech or Tokico Blues and H-Techs or Progress. I think both will be slightly lower without sacrificing ride quality.

I doubt you're gonna improve ride quality going from a Maxspeed setup to anything lower, although I've heard (but never experienced) that the H-Techs are a nice ride.... I have HPs/Progress and personally, I think its a decent ride, although it can get bumpy over mid to larger bumps. Then again, I might have a higher tolerance for harsh rides. I did go from stock to the current set-up, and I honestly think it isn't too bad.

Then again, its the struts that really matter.... just get the Illuminas and either of those springs and you should be fine in terms of ride quality.

For the price difference is there a huge difference between the blues and illuminas other than adjustability? I'm sold on the H-Techs. I appreciate you guyz making the time.

Well, I'm not sure I understand ya completely... but the "huge difference" between the Illuminas and the HPs is the fact that you can adjust the stiffness of the ride.... if ya think you're just gonna set it to a medium setting and leave it forever, then just get the HPs.... no complaints with mine... I got em used with 10k miles too.... best deal I could find...

I really don't plan on adjusting them...it seems most org members set them a 2F/2R. I figure the blues are 10x better than worn out stock struts. HPs and H-Tech look like the best solution $$$ wise and for my purpose.

since you can have gr-2's and hp's for the same price as illuminas im probably gonna go the non adjustable route and exeriment. together they should outlast the illuminas

Then that's what I'd go with... all the best and let us know how it turns out...

Btw, for all its worth, since money is an issue... check out the Classifieds forum here... I got my set-up off the 5th Gen Classifieds... $265 shipped for HPs (10k miles) and Progress springs (8K miles) from 2 .Org members...

Thanks. Any opinions between H-Techs and Progress? I know the Progress are slightly lower in the back. But both seem to have relatively even drops.

Like I said... I've never experienced the ride in a Max with H-Techs, so I can't comment.... looks wise they look just as good, IMO... like you, my final decision was made between those 2 as well, and I went with the Progress cuz those were the best deal for me at the time....

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I just wanted to know how you liked your Maxspeeds. I know they're cheap compared to H&Rs, Progress, etc, but were they much of an improvement over stock? I'm thinking of Maxspeeds and Tokicos.

I definitely look forward to hearing your comparison between the handling on the stock suspension vs the Maxspeeds vs the Progress. As far as looks go, I know the Progress will look better.

As long as we're being off topic, how did you edit your post without getting the "This post last edited..." message tacked onto the bottom?

My little secret...

Just kidding...

There's a small window of time RIGHT AFTER you complete the original post to make edits w/o that appearing...
