What weight Mobil 1? I am switching to synthetic next oil change, and I will be sticking with the OEM filter.

I thought about the K&N filter but have not heard of the benefit of the extra $ paid for the K&N oil filter.

Is there a reason why to use the OEM filter instead of a Mobil 1 filter??? Other than that it probably costs less?

5W-30 I stick with the OEM filter because it performs about the same as any other filters. Check out bill99gxe's write-up in the FAQ for more info.

...and are you planning on changing oil at 7k or 10k intervals? Is the OEM filter designed to go that long?

What Grade Oil Should I use?

I was thinking of using Fram + Teflon for the Oil filter.

Thanks.

Ok so 5w 30 it is. What do you all think of the Fram Oil Filter with Teflon? Anything better then that?

The FRAM oil filter with Teflon really does no do much considering that your Maxima is a new car. Most of these new cars have some type of teflon coating already added. It may not be Teflon persay, but most of these new manufacturers such as BMW and Audi already use a new subtance that is part of Teflon. They actually coat most of the engine parts with it. It is basically like Pro-Long.

I would just recommend any oil filter really. They all do the same job in the end, and like i said, with a new car, it really dont matter. With an older car, you would reep the benefits a little more.

I use Royal Purple Synthetic 5W/30 with an OEM Filter (Nissan) in both my SE and my wife's GXE. Change Interval = 3K miles.

Ah I don't think so. I would not want any coating even remotely resembling "prolong" in my engine. The oil filter is supposed to filter, nothing else. If anything coats your engine(like sludge) it will also make the already very small oil gallies even smaller. TRUST me you don't want that.

I thought that is what the FRAM with telfon does. It has a small additive of teflon that mixes in with your oil.

I aint promoting Prolong, but that **** seems like it can work. Does not seem like it will hurt the engine at all.

And no I dont drag rac for a living, I used to do it fulltime before but not too much anymore, I really want to get into Indy cars or Nascars style racing. I am sick of drag racing now.

I had better post a few links for your review. It was determined that putting a SOLID into the oil is a very bad thing to do.

http://members.nbci.com/minimopar/oil.html the additive portion is down at the bottom or click the header.

http://www.seansa4page.com/resource/synth.html addtive portion is down a little.

I use a Fram filter with 10w30 full synthetic Mobil1. I live in Northern CA, so with the milder weather I can use a heavier weight oil. If I lived back in Boston, I would go back to 5w30 in the fall and winter and early spring when the temp is always below 0C.
Also, with the full synthetic oils you can extend the changing period by 1000 - 1500 mile thank the synthetic oil's lesser resistance to thermal breakdown.

BTW: has any one tried Red Line synthetic motor and manual tranny fluid? And/or any synthetic tranny fluid in their 2K1 Maxima?
