Rebase HID bulbs

Has anyone ever rebased a HID bulb or at least knows how to do it? A link to a write-up could be helpful too. Thanks!

The reason I'm asking is that I want to use Philips HID bulbs in the fog lights, and the only way to match the color is to rebase the bulbs into H3. Anybody?

Check out MotionR 6000k. They outperform Silverstar, Sylvania/osram, PIAA, Phillips and more.

i wouldnt bother going that rout, rebasing your own bulbs sounds like a real pain. If you already have a set of bulbs, sell them on e-bay, for $50 then buy a set of H3 rebased bulbs from ebay, they only cost around $100, the bulbs arc will be as close to H3 fillament placment that you can get & 5000K should be pretty close to a 4300k bulb that has color shifted.

The thing is I don't even want better HID bulbs or a different brand. All I want is something that match the color of my original OEM HID bulbs(Philips) and as I said before, the only way to match the color is to get the same bulbs and rebase it into H3. I'll look into the links later, I gtg now. Thanks for the help, keep them coming.

thats why i sugested 5000K, after about 100hrs bulbs color shift towards a bluer color i think about 300K, so a older (color shifted) 4300K philips bulb will be close to 5000K,

I acutaly have a set of 5000k philips, am using 1 to replace a 4300K osram, and theres no difference (they were sold so when a single 4300k bulb broke the replacement doesn look yellower than a colorshifted 4300k)

but if you are set on rebasing your own bulb, do a search on hidforum.com thats the place to get info on something like that.

Huh?? How come my OEM HID's have no blue in them, except when first turning them on? Once they have been on a little while they actually have a yellow tint to them. I wish my bulbs were a bluer color. Then I wouldn't be buying 6000k bulbs from Umnitza.

It's because the bulbs are 4150k..so there shouldn't be any blue to them after they are warmed up..just pure white

Dr. Roy,

I appreciate your help so far.... but getting 5000k HID bulbs only matches the color of my headlights. If I get 5000k Philips HID bulbs, they still come in D2S or D2R, while the fog lights require H3 base.
