Exhaust installation help!!
Exhaust installation help!!
I bought my cat-back exhaust and put my car up on stands to install it. I couldn't get the stock rear section out. I need to get my car up further so that I can get the front of the rear section over the axle. Anybody done this another way? I really don't want to have it done or pay some shop to lift it up completely. Please help!
I placed a huge 3.5 ton floor jack (has a long arm) underneath the axle to jack up the rear of the car really high to remove the stock rear section. I couldn't remove it with my 2 ton jack. It should be no problem if you have a big jack like that.
+1 - That's exactly what I did as well for installing my Cattman axle-back setup. I actually jacked the entire car up with the rear being higher thanks to some 3 ton stands. Pics are on page 14 on my site.

17.5 inches up in the air, wow. That is a lot of needed clearance. Will see since I am holding out on my purchase till Charliejag gets his Cattman on and tells us what he thinks. Then I will decide, Cattman or Frankencar.

Here is the jack i used. I wish they had a better picture of it, but you guys can kind of see how long the arm is. It is only 60 bucks plus tax. Cheap IMO.

Here is an eBay link of the same jack. Costs much more than Sam's Club price though.
According to the specs on there, it lifts 22" high, which is more than enough to get the muffler section out.

I did the rear section successfully today with a 3.5 ton jack. It was cheaper than the install. It isnt the one in the links above, but it lifts 22 inches. I got it for 60 bucks (cheap) at checker auto parts. Thanks for your help. goodyear wanted 85 bucks an hour, this way I still have a jack to show for it and I pay less.
