RIP "The HID security thread"...here's what happened to it.

One of the moderators (I will not name names) suggested that the thread is getting a little sketchy in terms of talking about "how to steal the HIDs" rather than it's intended point of brainstorming ideas to secure them from "any" kind of theft. ...and I tend to agree with him at this point....

so....sorry to say that I have now deleted that thread so nobody is worried about letting the proverbial cat out of the bag to maxima.org-browsing thieves

anyhow, the thread had over 1,000 views and around 100 responses, so there is definitely interest in some of the ideas....so if anyone would like to discuss any of the ideas further with me, drop me a PM or IM....or if you come up with something brilliant to secure our HIDs, let me (and everyone else) know!!!!

out...

the best value and way to stop ppl stealing ur HID is to buy a custom sticker from a store approx $10-$20 and have it say "NO HID" and stick on the hood on top of the headlight.

Just a thought, especially to those of you in NJ who should go to Pearl96Max's shop in Edison and have him install an alarm, because he has done many an alarm where he mounts additional shock sensors in the engine bay or next to/on the light assembly itself. And there are battery back up sirens, so that even if they pop your hood and cut the wire to anything they want, including the siren itself, the siren will still go off.

But a 12 gauge would work too, Im not big into guns but my roommate would be out there shootin as well.

I think that once you come up with the security idea. Please keep it to yourself, and release the information to ppl that can show proof of either
A. own a 5.5 gen maxima.
B. Receipt of the HIDS bought for their 5th gen upgrade.

Because if you come up with something brilliant and the "THIEVES" find out what it is and thinks of another way of getting around it. We'll be once again fked. So it's actually a very good idea to keep a lid on this issue.

I think the best idea was relocating the ballast box somewhere aside from being attached to the headlamp. I would zip tie the wires in a way that if were to be pulled out they get pulled out of the headlamp not the ballast box.

this could benefit later on. if the lights were to get stolen and they are covered by your insurance. once replaced by the insurance (they will raplace the whole assembly) you will have an extra set of ballast in your possession wich can be teamed up with a hid h3 for the hid fog mod...

protect the ballast............. my .02

when I lived in italy, the italians would put a sign on the window of the car saying (in Italian, of course) "Radio already stolen, don't bother"

Hopefully, I will have a metal shop fabricating a special bracket for me within a month or two (I'm tweaking the design). When I do, I will see how much they want to make me a production run of like 20 or 50 or something. If it's reasonable, I'll post pics on my website (my private one, not cardomain), and let org'ers know that I have something for sale. For those who appear reputable, I'll send them a PM with a link to the site and they can buy it if they want (this will all be informal, of course).

Of course the only problem with this idea is my PM will get pummelled with requests, and I do have other things to do.....

I may also post a 'basic' pic which shows the bracket, but does not show how to take it apart...

we'll see....

hah yeah....but I don't care one bit about 1/4 mile times, so a little extra weight doesn't really concern me....And I weigh about 100 lbs less than some of the guys I've seen here on the org

i still prefer the MIA style of just putting razor blades under the hood. or just get a good alarm and then buy a glock like i will have soon.

LMAO!!! Honestly, that's the only way it can be handled. Then tack a scroll to the hood everytime you park it with all the people you've killed. Maybe that's what I heard last night...

I told ya the fix for the 2002 maxima ,change the front to a 2001 and put in aftermarket HIDs.Nobody even bothers to even think of a 2001......

Lets come up with a list of places not to bring your 2002 maxima
RKO theaters in PARAMUS,NJ <ugly fast and the furious style yellow mettalic car Mitsubishi NY PLATE I think with 2 black guys in it,drive around and look with their trunk open, white towel in back steal lights leave the grille, also do paramus mall!> Yes I am going to get revenge, these guys think they got away scott free->
Menlo Park Mall ,Edison ,NJ

Anyone else wanna ring in ?

artynnj...the main problem with your solution is that here in Fairfax county, Va., they're VERY strict about enforcing the fact that aftermarket HID kits are illegal.

by the way...I HAVE a 2000 front end (and rest of car)...I just upgraded teh lights...
