Ebay High flow cat, anyone?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33629

saw this on ebay, and while...i know it wouldnt make much power (if any) was wondering if anyone had one and could vouch for it.

it looks like a straight pipe....but claims it's a cat converter. i have been looking at the custommaxima straight pipe for a while and concidering that. but if this is just as good, it's much much cheaper.
anyways....opinions are welcome.

I wish they would show a shot of the inside. Without that, you really can't tell anything about what's inside. It certainly isn't as large as a stock cat or most of the aftermarket cats from reputable companies. I don't know if it would do you any good.

yeah, you won't pass emissions with that[.]

otherwise, it will reduce backpressure by about 2 percent!...

it's just illegal... so to speak

actually you probably would still pass. the stock cats are coupled to the engine. the one after the stock y-pipe is an afterburner which is basically designed to catch what if anything the main cats missed.

im still just wondering if anyones bought one, and seen inside it.

huh??
the one after the y-pipe is the main one. there is nothing to "catch what the main cat missed"
the pre-cats are on the ypipe and are used until the main can is warmed up.

and that is a straight pipe...and YOU WILL NOT PASS AN EMISSIONS INSPECTION

Getting an aftermarket y-pipe or headers will eliminate the stock precats, so for a lot of people, the cat behind the y-pipe (which is actually the main cat) is the only one they have left. If this guy is modding his exhaust setup, it's likely that he'll be doing something to eliminate his precats if he hasn't already, so if he removes his main cat, he won't pass emissions. Even WITH the main cat, he probably wouldn't pass an exhaust gas test until his car warms up.

my car passed with headers and just the main cat. it sat for about 30 minutes before they tested it. this was in charlotte, nc and i am sure it can be tougher in some places but it is quite strict here.

Here in GA I'm confident that I'd pass emissions with just the main cat. We generally do drive-through emissions here. You drive up to an emissions testing shed, garage, or tent, they hook your car up to see if you're throwing any codes, they do a visual check for fluid leaks or other unsafe conditions (sorta like the brief tech inspection at a drag strip), and they test your exhaust gases to make sure you're not spewing pollution from your tailpipe.

In some states, the visual check includes a check for stock exhaust and emissions equipment, so even your car isn't spewing pollution, you can fail emissions by having aftermarket exhaust parts.
