Has anyone taken off that black piece in front of the Accelerator pedal? I had my S-AFCII hooked up the other day and when I push the pedal to the floor the throttle is reading about 92-93%.

 

this might not be relevant but i remember back when i signed up, a discussion was going on about this in the 2k-2k1s. the conclusion was that the butterfly in the tb was not laying completely flat and it keeping the tps from being fully utilized. this was a while back so i might be a little hazy. i know your 3.5 is DBW but nissan may have used the same principle. i wouldnt mind removing mine and doing a baseline with the tps and seeing if it affects. ill remove it and get my harrison to do some data logging and see what i come up. memory also is stricking me about a tsb for the 2k2 that involved this.

 

I thought the recall on those things was to make sure you don't push the throttle too far, because due to the electronic nature of it, you can seriously screw up the engine. Don't think you should touch that stopper.

 

yeah i heard it was a cable stop mechanism, for 2000-2001 and after that it just protected the sensors from being over rotated in the pedal

without that stopper did your SES light go off?

 

i thought if you pushed the pedal past a certain point, the engine would die...i heard about someone's experiance when the bump stop fell off and he pushed the pedal too far which led to a near-wreck experiance...i wouldnt try messing with it if i were you....

 

yeah i heard when you messed with that stopper, the engine management system went into limp mode. It's supposed to cut the revs by like a huge amount.

 

that is what the rev limiter is for. the stock rev limiter will kick in regardless unless you picked up a ecu flash from ts. i should be able to test this by tomorrow and will report back.

 

Yeah that was me, ..almost wrecked ... Guy if i were you i wouldn't mess with stopper , your asking for trouble, and if you have a 3.5 Maxima , you are going to cause your engine to completely shut off on you , like in my case.

I was just curious to hear from everyone about this. And no I am not planning on removing it.

 

i have an 01 ae auto , and have had the stopper off for about 8 months and no problems whatsoever, no ses light, no engine cut off, if anything you feel a few more revs when pushing the pedal all the way down , it does reach 6200 rpm much quicker. not sure if it is different in the manuals, but i have not had any problems with it- i had taken it off when attending the track last yr to get the revs up a bit more - good luck

 

Yeah but 3.5 are diffrent from 3.0's. If you didn't know all 3.5 have electonic throttle contol, not the linkgage.That stopper is there for a reason on our cars(3.5 models). For all you 3.5 owners there is a recall for a locking bolt to keep the stopper from ever coming off, as it did in my case. I haven't done it yet, so far i check my stopper once a week to see if it is cominng loose or has come loose. If it comes lose while you are driving and you happen to punch it for any reason , your engine will die on you, so check it, it can meen you being safe or sorry.

 

What if you just took a little off the top? Sand it down or something.

 

Maybe you need to do the throtle position reset

 

fezzik sounds right, i'd say it just needs to be recalibrated.

 

well i got under there this morning to go ahead and take it off so i could test it tonight. apparently between my winter plastic cover mat and nissan floormat, the pedal was never even touching the stopper. there was a deep indention in the plastic one and a faint in the carpet. i know i would hit the rev limiter either way but if the tb wasnt as close to flat as it would be at true WOT then I know I was missing out on something. here i am putting headers and all the other things to improve acceleration and my floormats were keeping me from putting the pedal to the floor.
i will remove it tonight and seeing what the data logging says.

 

any one have pics of this thing. its scary to think that htat little rubber stopper is the only thing between you and certain doom. i gotta make sure i check up on this thing, wife drives the car more then me so i have to keep on top of that

 

just look under the accelerator. it is very evident and impossible to miss if you have one.

 

i did a few tests last night. with the floormats situated the way they were, i was unable to break 85% on the throttle. with the mats removed i was able to hit mid to high 90's depending on what gear it downshifted in. with the stopper removed, the results were the same with the stopper in place. this may figure differently with the 3.5 and its DBW.
i also asked sr20den and he said anything from mid 80% and up will account for 95-100% of airflow. so even though my floormat was blocking the pedal from going to the stopper, it was not blocking that much air from getting through. i did position the mat so it would not be in the way because i want that butterfly in the tb as flat as possible at WOT.
