4 th windshield on my 2k1 max wtf...

A couples of days ago, I came back home after works and a flying rock hit the windshield, and left a very small pit, so I figure out to leave the car in the drive way and have it fix the next morning, but to my surprise when I started the car the next day, the windshield was totally crack from left to right, I mean fock I have the car for a little over 4 years and it's going to be the 4th windshield I replace at 500$ a pieces, the last one has been replace in august 2004. On my last 3 Nissan cars ( 2 maxima and a Pathfinder ) I hade replace 7 windshields, I mean WTF I have owned about 15 cars in my life and I never had change a single windshield in any of the non Nissan cars. I can believe how bad the windshield are on this car, is this me or what, I mean I was driving like grandpa. My insurance doesn't cover it so it's money that fly's out of my pocket for nothing. Man I'm so pi$$ed off that if that happend again I will sell that fockin car and buy an M3.

Either you hate your windshields or they hate you. j/k
I have never had to replace any windshields on any of the 5 Nissans that I have owned. I doubt the M3 windshield is any better from a rocks point of view.

Winter is tough on our windshields, especially on the hiway. My 00 is ready for it's 3rd windshield...The way I see it, if your driving alot on the highways in the wintertime, theres no way around it in the northern climates.

Winter here really suck for that matter, my friend has an M3 that he's been driving for the 3rd winter, despite the fact that RWD car sucks in winter he never had to change any windshield so I dunno what's wrong, euhm murphy's law I guess, well at least I dont have accident, that 2G could have been use for carbon fiber hood and cattman headers but that will have to wait.

Did your friend's M3 suffer any stone impacts to the windshield?

Your 4th w/shield?! **** that really sucks. I had 2 chips that occured 2 years ago on my max and and got them fixed. Thankfully the w/shield didnt crack more.

Obviously it's not easy to avoid flying rocks and pebbles but I try to avoid being near trucks and since you drive like grandpa do the same

Bonne chance mon ami.

Your getting seriously ripped off on the price of a windshield. A windshield for a Maxima goes for $180 installed. I just replaced the windshield in my BMW 330i, rain sensing wipers and all for $260.

Oops the 500$ was canadian balone, but still that 400$ US for a fockin piece of glass. Why are we getting ripped off like this ? no matter where you call they all sell the same price so they must have made a deal with the devil. My friend who has the M3 must have had stone flying too but never had to replace the windshield, he drive it on the highway, and he drive like he stole it. The road in Qc are like 1920 trail and maybe the windshield are poor quality, but I was told that a replacement windshield are as good as the one that came on the car originally. Actually I think I'm going to buy a used tank from the US army cuz I'v check with the canadian army and they only have used canoe, slingshot and crazy carpet for winter.Lol.

My Accord has many chips on the windshield, but never cracked..My Maxima, no chips but the windsheild is in a very bad shape with very small holes all over the windsheild that looks like grit..and the worst is that when light hits it in a certain way, there is a lot of glare from the glass...something like small glowing crystals!!! very annoying..

Easy for me to say no reason for you to get so pissed of but im not forking out the money either. Living in Fairbanks Alaska where we use gravel and not salt, it is very harsh on the vehicles. I usually drive 5 seconds behind the closest car and as far right as the snow berm will allow me when cars pass. I have two chips but when that happened I went directly to NOVUS! My Yukon has a crack all the way across the windshield impairing my vision of the road only when I am thinking about the damn crack. It has about 20 chips in it so i dont even bother going to Novus. Also you may think about calling PROTINT.com cus they have a windshield tear off film like NASCAR does for vehicles. You may want to consider that as an option if you are driving at highway speeds and gravel is tracking your window down. GOOD LUCK!

Should the windshield be cover by the insurance (comprehensive)? I changed the windshield of my previous car paied by the insurance company. The glass store even waived the deductible so I ended up getting a new windshield for free.

$400!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!? WOWWWW.. thats A LOT of money for a damn windshield. I mean I know dealers charge $700 for a new nissan windshield, which will of course crack from a grain of rice hitting it. It's not you, it's almost all nissan windshields. My cousins maxima went thru a windshield, my friends max went thru 2 windshields and I went thru 1. But the thing is we only paid like $140 for our windshields. There is no difference between OEM nissan windshield and aftermarket. Maybe you should contact me for ur next windshield and i'll ship it to you for $300. Still cheaper then what you pay LOL. J/K.

What caused the windshields to break in those cars?

There are not many windshields that can withstand rock impacts. Even those really thick anti-ballistic windshields that cost 10 grand.

$500 canadian dollars is like $7 US dollars, so it's actually really cheap.

wow, i'm surprise about the windsheild. I have a crack on mine since seven months ago and I have yet have to get it replace. I owned this car for four years and when I got the cracked, I was shocked how it originated from a little speck of chipped glass which you could barely noticed. That really says something about Nissan's glass are not strong as we would all thought.

I'm driving with a crack from one side to the other right now. Trying to wait till spring to replace. I already need tires so I think the car might be totaled..lol . Just when you think you can buy some kind of mod the money goes to something like this. It started with a chip in the middle then I used my defroster to melt some ice and it cracked from driver to passenger side.

It sounds like I am in the minority, but I don't bother getting a new windshield when it chips or even cracks as long as it doesn't impair my vision when driving. As a matter of fact, up until the time I need to drive like Ace Ventura, I will live with it. If I bought a new windshield everytime it chipped, or even every time it cracked, it would be cheaper for me just to start my own glass shop. My 2K2 has a couple of cracks and a dozen or so chips, and it also looks sandblasted when the sun shines on it the right way, but so far I've been lucky in that nothing is significantly impeding my vision when driving.

BTW, I am also live in an extremely cold climate. That seems to be a pretty common theme in this thread.

The M3 windsheild acctually is at a more tappered angle so when a rock does hit one the rock seems to just bounce off more offten, Now our windsheilds are closer to about 45 Degrees and rocks will hit and stick right into it! thats why it all depends on the cars you have, the glass is ussually the same strength

Yes, glass angle has a lot to do with the impact damage potential. Anti-ballistic glass is a prime example. Glass that is installed upright more likely to be penetrated by a projectile while angled glass tends to deflect them.

I need to get my windsheild replace ASAP. Can anybody suggest good place in NJ/NY Area? It seems like 150 seems pretty fair.
