Got header? Got ypipe? Got Bpipe?

I've seen a VQ30 with POP, headers, Bpipe, and no rear section, lose power with an aftermarket cat.

So, unless you've got a pretty high flowing exhaust, I wouldn't bother.

if you were to run a high flow cat its basically just a straight pipe right? Would this cause a check engine light to appear?

A high flow cat is not a "straight pipe", they all have their own type/style of honeycomb whatever inside. Some apparently are more restrictive even though they appear more streamline/shorter then OEM cats.

No, on the CEL, if you're a Cali-spec.

Totally not worth it. I put one in and it actually blew within 6 months (Not saying it's because it's a high-flow... Don't really know why it blew). I just put a regular cat back in and notice really no difference.

Is your rear 02 before or after the main cat?

Also, curious on the ypipe, it eliminated the firewall side precat, correct?

i'm not sure about that, install was done by someone else, and I am not very smart when it comes to exhaust. I think the y pipe eliminated some precats.

Okay, I don't remember off the top of my head anymore where/how the Fed specs are, but if you removed the precat and then remove the main cat and the rear 02 is downstream of the main cat, you'll get a check engine light with a straight pipe. Maybe not with a high flow cat or with a precat still in place.

Start with a y-pipe... since ya have a VQ30, it'll give ya some nice gains too.... check out Soonerfan's video in his signature....

And another thing, with a smaller engine and different exhaust components, I'm not sure how close you're gonna get to the G35's tone...

Remus makes some nice sounding universal mufflers. Dual tip design.

I just had the high flow cat installed last week and I noticed a slight difference in sound, a definite increase in accelaration and also about 35 miles more to my tank than normal. I didn't believe the average mpg increase they are supposed to create but it saves me money in the long run so it is a wise investment for that purpose atleast!

You could get a muffler shop to custom fit a universal single inlet, dual outlet flowmaster series 40 muffler with the tips of your choice. This would be the best choice if you're on a limited budget. I'm planning on a custom 2.5" cat-back with a flowmaster series 40 and magnaflow 2.5" rolled tips. I'm planning on having it done at Lou's Custom Exhaust (if you're familar with this chain).
