3 Miscellaneous problems w/ my 2K max.....please read and help

Even thought I am jealous as all get out of most of your maxima's, maybe one day I will trick mine out. It can only get better, as it is nice enough stock. I have a 2000 SE that is experiencing a few problems. I bought it precertified w/ the extended bumper to bumper so it is still under warrenty. Please advise if you know what might be wrong:

1. Cruise control stopped working. When I press the Cruise on light, it come on steady on the dash but the set button will not work. 5-10 seconds later, the set button starts flashing and continues to do so until I shut it off.

2. Rear break lights do not work w/ the exception of the spoiler. Lights com on with the headlights, but do not light up with break depress (again, with the exception of the spoiler light.) Turn signals and reverse lights all work.

3. Seperate issue from the two above as they both seem to have happend at about the same time, but when I start the Max on some cold mornings (not all) there is a whirring/grinding noise just at startup. Turn the car off and restart or start any other time during the day and it doesnt happen.

Everyone here seems really great and I appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions/concerns of mine. Have a great day!

If it's still under warranty, just take it in and let them fix it.

The third problem is a rather common one. It is coming from the starter. You can either replace the starter, or pull it out, clean, and regrease it. I have to warn you for cleaning and regreasing it you need to pull it apart. You need to have a good amount of mechanical experience to do so. I posted a how-to in the how-to thread on it. These days it might not be too expensive just to replace the starter and much easier.

The first two problems sounds like they are related to the SECU. That would be a dealer kind of job.

Hey guys/gals, thanks for the speedy replys. The bumper-bumper is still in affect so I guess I will let them take care of it. I did check the fuses (simple I know, but they were fine) I wonder if the dealer will replace the starter just for the grinding noise or does it need to break first? I wonder....but thanks again everyone!

he has a 2000 max so i believe that the tsb doesnt apply to him, but that foodmanry was right. Everyone i know who has a 2000 maxima has the starter noise, and recently mine does it everytime i start the car, cold or warm. Like someone said, since your still under warranty, take it back to the dealer, make sure they have the issue of the starter noise looked at and placed on file, and make sure they fix it. Demand that it be fixed. The tail lights going out happened to me, right after i picked up my car also, both went out, i just bought the bulbs, replaced the lights and it has been good ever since then. As for the cruise that sounds like something the dealer migth have to also have a look at. Make sure they fix both, dont take your car until they do, you paid for the guarantee that your car, even though its over warranty is still guaranteed to perform like new.

trust me, it can get worse.

As for your problems, bring it to the dealer for 1 and 3. Your brake lights are dual filament so its very possible that the brake filament burned out.
