Once the ECU is reprogrammed....?

I need to reprogram my ECU, its been disconnected few times and MAF installed and I think it needs that Fuel Cut TSB thing. Now, I plan on changing the clutch, and that will include disconnecting the battery for the time of service. If I reprogram the ECU now, will all that be gone and back to factory settings once I unplug battery for a long time? or is ECU written in some other flash ROM that its not affected by disconnecting the battery.

I think it will set it back to factory if I unplug the battery. Am i correct?
Thanks

if you have the dealer flash the ecu you will be ok. the only settings you lose are the ones you manually have to change. like advanced timing and stuff.

Where do you guys come up with this stuff?

Disconnecting the battery ONLY erases stored DTC codes(2000-2001 only) and "learned" values for fuel enrichment/leanment(short/long term fuel trim). It does NOTHING to dealer FLASHED program data or timing/idle parameters.

Think about it logically and how often do you think people have batteries die/alternators die/disconnected batteries for work under the hood, do you REALLY think that would "erase" EEPROM in the ECU?

Although the dealer could make more money if that was true, they'd be swamped reflashing peoples cars every time constant power was disrupted.

This is NOT your alarm clock with no battery backup we are talking about here.

Thank you ICY! A lot of info here is "misleading" in that it is 180 degrees off correct. Good to see that at least some can be corrected.

Can anyone describe this fuel cutoff? I know i need a maf, i cant get past 3200 rpm in a manual. I have no power in the entire band and this after unplugging the battery for a few hrs. Will a reprogram bypass the "learning" process of the ecu?
