P0505 - Idle Air Control Valve

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this? Do I need to replace the IAC valve or will cleaning it help? Anyone know that the FSM says? Thanks

I purchased the idle air control valve online ($178.49) and had it overnighted to my home. It arrived the next day. This is for my 1996 Nissan Maxima GLE. I located a great site that has photos of removing the throttle body and air filter. This will help those that have never done it before. The idle air control valve is connected to the same shaft that the throttle body connects to. While you're in there replacing your idle air control valve, you might as well grab a can of 'carb cleaner' and scrub out your throttle body.

Motorvate is the sweet web site: http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/517

After the installation of the new idle air control valve and clean throttle body, I 'cleared the check engine light' through the 'brains' near the gas peddle and fired up the car - actually had my 9 year old start it for me! We were both very much elated to hear that purr again.

Performance had returned as well.
Immediately my check engine

I think the original poster was referring to the 5th Gen IACV, which is considerably different from the 96 model.

Maybe you will need to save a little amount of money for purchase that part. I cleaned mine a few times until the step motor just give up and my idle becomes stuck a lot of times in a random position: too low or too high.

I ordered a new part and it will arrive soon. It cost me $128 + $28 for International shipping (I live in Mexico ). And yes, it was the last option to fix it.
