Key programming

Is there a way to do this yourself or do I have to go to the stealership? I was quoted at $85 to reprogram the 2 keys and one remote. Is this too much or about right?

Thanks in advance,
Jon

I already tried the search and no help so don't flame.

Keys

I needed an extra key and programmed for my remote starter ('01) and the dealership was to high. I was going to buy the key off ebay, but a locksmith in town (Omaha) said they'd sell me the key and program it for $45. Took 10 mins and everything's cool. Actually went back and got another for back up and they all work fine.

I got my key off ebay and took it a local dealer where they cut and programmed for $11.00 Not sure if they if the price was right? Paid 19.00 for key from ebay w/ship. Local locksmiths wanted 100.00-I told them I would hot wire it first!

go to a locksmith and have them do it. Call around the price is around 40-45 bucks. I got 2 for 75 done.

Buy the remote off ebay, the directions to program it are on the org in ultiple places.

It costs a lot becuase the machine used to program the keys cost the locksmith 7K and he has to sepnd 1K yearly on updates.

you can get the key for the 5th gen from courtesyparts.com it's not listed on the site unlike the 6th gen key which looks exactly the same, but if you call they should have it available. it's around $24 or so i believe. then if you can have a locksmith cut/program it.
