Remote Start Bypass? Transponder?

Hey guys,

I have a quick question to those of you that have the remote start in their current cars or have some know how of the remote starts in the 5th Gen. I'm about to install my remote start this weekend on my 01 Auto Max, but I still haven't goten the bypass for the ignition start to turn the car on. I wasn't sure which bypass system was needed... There's on I know of which reads the transponder chip in the key and turns the car on, only down fall your actual spare key/dupulicated key must be in the car inside the kit (didnt like that idea very much) Is there anyother ways to bypass the system for our cars with the Smart Key?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Joe

no, you need the 556U from DEI....if you scared of someone hot wiring or something, tha tis not possible as the 556U only sends the key signal when the remote start is activated from the Alarm system. If you are scared of someone finding the key and starting the car then cut the key part off and just leave the chip side of the key in the bypass.....but if you install it yourself, you could hide it and it would take far too long to find it with the alarm off....

use the valet key, and hack off the teeth, and place just the chip in the module.

Thanks guys, that's what I was thinking to do anyway just wanted to know if their were any other options. I guess breaking the key and leaving the chip will work on the module. I'll try to find the mod on Ebay for cheap otherwise I can get it from a professional installer for about 40 bucks. Thanks for the tips.

i got the 556u, and the transponder from ebay. the locksmith had to cut the key to program it to make sure it worked. then i broke the key. took them to local shop to get it install. the installer said it was a good idea and will tell all his customers to do that. i had asked this question awhile back.
THANK ORG.!!

yes this bypass module should work with any alarm. it's made by DEI, so it's pretty versatile.

I wanna go about the same thing but I only have one key. The lady I bought the car from was careless and lost one. Do I buy a transponder key off of ebay and take it to a dealership to get programmed?

how much would it cost just to program a transponder key?

i just bought my key off of ebay for $15 shipping and all. It is $10 to get it cut and $25 to get it programmed. Take the key to walmart and get it cut for free. The only problem is they do not cut computer keys. So if you get someone who isn't so smart tell them the key doesn't have a computer chip in it.

So what about installing the bypass, any tips?

Why are you getting the key cut if its going to go in your bypass module?

I haven't put it in yet, but hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will. I've done a few remote start alarm systems, and this would be considered cake compared to that, and I haven't even looked at the schematics. If you are the slightest bit electrically inclined (+ is positive, - is negative), and can follow directions, I don't see an issue in your project. Ask specific questions along the way is what I've found helps. I'll look at everything (schematics) tomorrow, and let you know if I find any shortcuts.

You need to get the key cut becuase if the dealer messes up the programming you will be trying everything to get it fixed. I bought a DEI remote start and bypass. I noticed the bypass needed an ignition3 and my starter module does not have that. How do I wire it up to make an ingition3. Plus when connecting the start wire which 2 wire did you use?(2000 SE).

Ignition3?
Your alarm brain should have a 'ground when remote starting' output. This, and power, are all the bypass should need. For example, on DEI alarms, you use a blue wire that DEI labels Status Output.

If you guys are stuck on DIY for alarms, see http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/viper791xv/
for more info, pics, a full write up, the works.

And deckdout2, all the schematics are in the Audio forum, in the sticky at the top, in case you cant find anything.

Somone asked here y do the keys need to be cut, well its to ensure that the key is correctly programed. The key takes 2 seconds to program from a dealership, and they cut it for free. I gave the guys at the dealership a few dollars on the side and he did it for free, wasn't bout to pay 50 bucks to program a key. I got my key from Ebay like someone else said here for 15 bucks. The transponder I bought from Ebay too and that was like 15 with shipping.

I'm not too sure about how to program the units but I'm having mine being installed by a pro, but I'll be there watching and taking notes. I'll see what he does and see if I can help anyone out here.

i ghetto rigged mine about 4 yrs ago...cut up my valet key and wrapped in copper wire then wrapped it around the key column....works fine, my installer wired the system so that I still need a key w/ a transponder to start the car, but when autostart, the signal is sent .....

the cheapest way to do all that is, pry the chip off the key with a needle (pry the blue cover off) and glue it to the key cylinder. i have the bypass box, but i later found out that i could have just glued the chip on the key cylinder

yeah, then whats the point of having a transponder chip in your key, if its permanently disabled with this chip glued to the cylinder. Might as well spend a couple bucks on a relay and wire it up like myktek did, at least thats not crazy ghetto, only a little ghetto.

that's very true, it does defeat the purpose of having the transponder key. but most people that jack cars do their homework. and if lets say i was a thief, i'de know exactly whether or not the person has remote start and having been an installer i'de know what cars need what madules in order to bypass the transponder chips. and in our case we need the one that has an electric coil that draws the signal from the key and transmits it through a wire that loops around the key cylinder. then i'de know the person must have the key somewhere in his car, and it makes jacking the car all the more easier. if the car is going to stolen it'll be stolen. alot of ppl don't even bother with breaking into the car anymore they use towtrucks, they'll just straight tow the car away and strip it down in a more convenient location.

you mean 555U.. when i installed the RS on my car, i order a key on ebay, had it programed but NOT CUT and then used that so that even if they do find it, they arent going anywhere. also not only hid the box where u wont be able to find it, but used the same wire color for all the ignition wires so that evn if they do try to steal it, they wont know anything without a tester
