muffler sound

When i first got my car, it was the smoothest quietest ride that qas equal to any luxury brand. I go around to putting in a K&N drop in for the sake of convience and i noticed recently that there is a noticible engine sound eminating from the car. its not a bad sound, just more throaty. i was just wondering if anyone has had this occur with them and if i should be worried about something

did you check your muffler? maybe you have a hole or something, air filter is not going to make too much of a difference.

i strongly believe that it isnt a hold in the muffler because in my past experience, a hole in the muffler causes a rattling noise. or maybe thats just my old car....

well contrary to popular belief, more growl does not mean more power. it actually means that there is a hold in your muffler. :-( o well so much for wishful thinking. so how much should i expect the dealer to charge me for a new muffle and pipe + install. rather yet, would it be cheaper to get an aftermarket exhaust and have a mech install it?
