Blown Engine....Insurance?

I think my engine is shot.

Was hearing intermittent scraping sounds coming from the bottom of the engine where the pulley was so didn't think nothing of it..Well, today coming home from work, the engine shutoffs so I pull over to find that my front passenger wheel is covered in oil and metal shavings...Shot engine? If so, will insurance cover?

Insurance won't cover it. That's not what insurance is for.

Normally insurance will not cover mechanical malfunctions such as a blown engine unless it was a result of some sort of accident (flood etc) or vandalism.. This would be covered by extended warranty if you have it. Good luck.

So it is a blown engine? Car still turns over but can hear scraping sound. Guy at Nissan says insurance "might" pay for it or total the car completely considering I still owe $5K. Damn this sucks...

Insurance may pay for it or warranty? How many mi do you have on it? may still be under powertrain warranty.

I got an engine from Ebay for 250 bux locally from a 01 Maxima with 31K miles on it. Install should cost ya around 500-750 bux at a shop. U can find engines around 500 on Ebay for 00-01s.

one of my friends engine siezed not to long ago and his insurance covered it with no problem. all ins. co. are different, just cause one goes by certain guidlines doesnt mean it flows across the board, but we all know ins. are cheap when it comes to pay so best thing is to do your research and hit them with facts. if you call and ask them theyll deny. good luck. theres always salvage yards.............

I would be calling Nissan....Manufacturers do have a thing called goodwill. They may still cover it since it is so close.....

A good dealer will help also....Don't give up that easy....

Sorry to hear it, that sucks. I would call Nissan-1 find out what they advise since it's not normal for a car with the kind of mileage to break on you.

I would think Nissan would be less likely to honor a recently expired warranty if you were modded.

Just picked up the car and foundd my windshield freaking cracked all the way to the middle. Nissan claimed it was there when I took it there...BS. Yes I admit, there was a SMALL crack no more than half an inch on the VERY bottom where the windshield wipers rest. Even their damn tech said there was a small one but must have gotten that big when they took it to the car wash. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he just admit to it? Stupid manager says that small cracks can get that big over time, yet it never happen to me in the 2 years I had my car, yet just happen to get that big in their possesion. They refuse to pay for it. I'm waiting to hear from their other manager. Should I call my insurance or Nissan USA?

Call Nissan USA first. If they noticed the crack, they should've told you that they're not going to be liable for it before that mess w/the car further (and then get your permission to mess w/it further or not). Last resort = insurance.

Exactly......

Stupid service guy said they noted it in there system when they started on the car. I asked to see records of what time it was noted and he said they don't have that info. Morons could have added it when they cracked it. Service guy was standing right there when the tech said "Yeah, there was a little crack, must've gotten that big when we took it to the car wash". Manager added that small cracks can become that big just sitting in the sun. How the hell can a half-inch crack grow to 16 inch crack in the sun. I asked for photos of this ever happening before, yep, didn't have any. What made me mad was that they didn't even apologize even when the tech admitted to it.
