Start up smoke.

when i start up my max from a cold start. A little bit of blueish/white and a very small tint of black smoke comes out of one of the tips in my exhaust. My dad said it could be piston rings, piston build up or something. anybody have a better idea than that generic statement?? I really want to not have that happening. Its nerve tracking and embarasseing. I worry about it because i want my car to be mint. PLease help!!!!!

Blue smoke = oil
Burning oil = bad

Also my father said that the rings could be bad or going bad and the valves could be weak. That would be a fricken steep job right?like to get that all fixed. Man im so nervous about it.

ok thank you very much man, will do. i have a compression reader at my other house. Tomorrow im going to pull of the spark plugs to check the color and see if they are a brownish color and not blackened and crappy. That willalso help me to determine some more about the issue. It only puffs a little bit of the smoke when i first start it up. Its when the engine is cold and not warmed up. Wierd.

i hope it is just build up..... try doing an engine flush.. and swith to sync oil......only if the test is good.. if it bad.. yo might have to replace oil rings... or depending on how much.. a new engine.. but that will be the most remote possibility

It could be bad PCV valve. I just hope it's not a blown HG.

If your get blueish smoke at start up on a cold engine it's usually bad valve stem seals and possibly excessive valve stem guide wear. A compression test is a good start but a leak down test would help to diagnose further. It will differentiate between ring leakage and valve guide leakage. You can purchase a leak down tester at most quality auto part stores. I would try and find a dual guage one like this one:

thanks for all the help and places to buy good stuff. Im gonna give all these things a test. This morning when i started her up she didn't smoke, she steamed because it was cold out. Yesterday i changed my filter on my intake and cleaned up the engine and polished the muffler. Maybe something got into the exhaust when i was washinhg the car. But im goin to be on the lookout for smoke again. Thanks again guys!

Well, i found out that the guy who owned it before me never had to replace plugs due to fouling, he cleaned the engine with seafoam kind of recently( so that might be some left over). I think its running rich, but i could be wrong. IM using 10w30 mobil 1 synthetic. Hmmm. Should i be concerned still?

ok, i came up with an idea that maybe since i still have the stock muffler on it, that it isn't clearing all of the emmisions. Im going to replace witha Ractice MT610 muffler. They rip and sound great. hopefully that will eliminate cold start puffing.
