Guys, I just got a mailing from Nissan today outlining their Security+Plus "Silver" Vehicle Protection Plan.

It says it covers the following:

Engine
Transmission
Steering
Drive Axle Assembly
Electrical
Suspension
Brakes
Air Conditioner
Towing
Car Rental

Something like 1001 components covered in all.

The breakdown is as follows (payments over 12 months):
6 years/75,000 miles = $83.33/month or $1000.00
5 years/100,000 miles = $90.50/month or $1086.00
6 years/100,000 miles = $102.08/mo or $1225.00

There's also supposedly an option for 7 years/100,000 miles but I couldn't find a price on that one.

Of course, you'd have to know you'd keep your car that long but there is an allowance for you to transfer the warranty to a new owner so you might be able to get something a little extra for it.

What do you guys think? Has anyone else received this brochure?

Cheers!

I received this numorous times. Most dealers don't even acknowledge the fact that you are a "silver" member until you get in there face and show them what it is.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't get it, Its your choice. It DOES sound intriguing.

RcticMax ...

1. Whoa .. the pricing was the same 4 me .. except in CAD $$ ... thus .. that's damn expensive!

2. It won't affect your resale ... trust me ... esp is u go thru the dealer .. they don't care a rats a$$ about this since when they sell it ... they sell the buyer of the used car added warranty @ a premium ... so they stick it to 2 people ...

3. I can't see your sig while I'm posting this ... but you know you'll void your existing warranty plus this one as soon as you do (or have done) any mod ... even the SI mite cause you some difficulty in getting warranty work done ... y-pipe, UDP, dropping .. those common mods will definately void all warranties!

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback.

As for the mods, my service manager actually complimented me on the FSTB and reinforced that it would improve the handling significantly. Then he said I should get a rear sway bar (musta been punkdork's twin only this guy isn't the ) as it would make the handling that much better. He told me that as long as the mod doesn't get in their way while they're trying to fix something, it's no problem. If it was, he'd ask me to remove it before he had to work on that particular area of the car.

So far, so good.

Yeah, but that is just a FSTB, let's see when you put Y-pipe and aftermarket intake system or better yet putting on aftermarket suspension parts on and try to bring it in for some warranty works---ouch..can you say--out of warranty!!!!!

And removing it before warranty work????that doesn't make sense. Dont' tell me you are going to remove all your mods before going into the dealer?????like Y-pipe and suspension parts????What a hassels..

Don't get me wrong, I know some dealers are nice and all, but i would say 90% of them will try to find the lamest excuse to get out of warranty as many of us have experienced!

And if you are going to mods your car(i assume you are, otherwise you wont' be here), extended warranty is waste of money!!

Tim, just to clarify, he said I would only have to remove the mod if it was physically in the way (i.e. preventing from getting to the area they were trying to fix). I see your point about the y-pipe, etc. and hopefully won't have to do that if I do wind up getting a y-pipe (at my current burn rate I'll be outta fun-money soon so it might be a mute argument anyway)

The deal is my SM is a muscle car gear-head and used to drag race motorcycles so he understands the need for speed and is cool about the stuff. We'll see just how cool when I go in for my next oil change (free, btw, as long as I own the car... bonus) and he sees my POP-Charger. I think maybe I'll call him prior to going in and ask him, hypothetically of course, if one were to have a modified intake, what would the story be then.

I'll let you all know. Here's to hoping he's the real deal.

Cheers!

I actually have it...

I have Gold on both Max and PF. I was getting jerked around on the rental car, even by Nissan. I finally made them read the manual to me "ANY REPAIR", not overnight. Its a total pain in the *** to actually get the rental car.

I have not gotten any better service. Also, there is a huge exception list you get get after buying it... such as radio and ac. its NOT bumper to bumper.
1001 components? think about that... How many components are in a transmission? ALOT! Look at a FSM and the part list. all of a sudden 1001 isnt that many!

I'm considering getting the balance of my warranty refunded. the 5yr/60K powertrain will probably suffice...

The dealer where I bought my Maxima tried to sell that to me when I got the car, and then the finance guy lied to me about having to buy the plan right then and there or it'd never be offered to me again. Of course I didn't believe him, so I didn't go for it. (That reminds me...don't EVER buy from Capital Nissan in San Jose, CA. I got a real joker of a salesperson, who wouldn't even live up to his part of the deal to get me my car the next day. Another salesperson had to get the car for me personally, and the salesmanager had no guts to even face me as I waited past closing for my car. But I digress...)

I believe the brouchure says that you can buy the additional coverage before your 3-year/36-month warranty ends, so I might do it then. At least this way, you have time to wait, think about it, and/or save for it. If you plan on keeping your Maxima for the long haul, then I would recommend that you get the extra protection, if you can afford it.

Thanks!

Just wanted to thank all you guys for your input. Will probably hang out for a bit and try to get the exception list before I pull the trigger on anything (if I do).

Cheers!
