Update on my Budget Exhaust Situation...

I just wanted to let everyone know what Budget is going to do for me after speaking with them on the phone today.

Basically, in return shipment, DHL and Purolator (Canada) combined in losing my package (the returning non-fitting ypipe). For about 2 months now I have been trying to figure out where it was so that they could hurry up and get it back to Budget exhaust. Well, to this day, all we know is that the package is somewhere in Toronto and Purolator has no record of it....doh!

Anyway, I just spoke with Jody Lyell and Jeff has decided that he is going to just send me a new stainless steel ypipe on Monday for all the trouble I have gone through and that they will get on Purolator's case about getting the package back to them or getting reimbursed for it.

Thus, I just want to let everyone know that after 3 months of dealing with this situation, Budget is going to be very gracious and send me a new pipe.

Thanks Jeff and Jody.

I will let everyone know next week how the new one fits compared to the old one.

good to hear man. i wasnt aware of your problem, but it says a lot about Budget as a company. rather than wash their hands of it and say that they werent the ones who lost it, talk to DHL or Purolator (not sure what that is), they took initiative to take care of the customer.

it's taken budget a while to get to this point though, and i agree with soonerfan, should of gone warpspeed and it's great that they use the brown truck. but that is good for lance that he will finally feel the difference with a ypipe and how nice they are

Don't you have finals to study for instead of working on your car???

Lance...let me make a quick suggestion that you try the Y-pipe for fitament on someone else's maxima before returning it AGAIN. You never know, maybe something is funky with YOUR exhaust system that is preventing a correct fit....probably not, but just thinking out loud here....

No, not funky thinking at all because I commented to the installer the same thing. Who knows?

****, I would just tell exhaust shop to bend you a peice after the flex to make it fit right. Reuse the flange off the Budget pipe and have a custom 2.5in pipe w/ a small pressure bend in it. You will not lose anypower that way./

I will add this though Josh....there is a distinct difference in the design of the rear sections of the warpspeed/cattman ypipes and the budget.

Notice here how the WS ypipe angles back toward the center of the vehicle and then bends again back to the cat.

Now, on the Budget, there is no re-bend here, it just goes straight back from the flex section which is what I believe causes the fitment issues.

I woul think that any decent exhaust shop would be able to put the bend in it....

Ya, but look at where the bend is there -- the first coming from the welded intersection. I would have a hard time thinking that it could be bent back there. Not to mention I shouldn't have to spend more money trying to get it to fit right when it is supposed to be the correct fitment in the first place.

There are two fitment issues that keep recurring.

1. The ypipe does not line up with the rear upper manifold thus causing the leak that I have observed with both pieces.

2. The pipe bangs up against the floorboard underneath the passenger side of the car since there is no re bend near the flex section. (Shown here)

does anyone else have some pics of their budget ypipe that fits right? i am curious, being that this is lance's second one and both fit the same leads me to believe that they all fit this way.

Hopefully people will see what kind of product they are getting with these kind of companies. Tough luck Lance. Drop the extra scratch for some headers.

At this point I don't think I would have any ground to stand on by asking them for my money back. They have done what they could to show their good faith by sending me another ypipe.

I hope to work with them to give them some ideas on how to resolve this fitment issue and hopefully we can figure something out from there. I seriously doubt that I would ever be able to get my money back.

Well you wouldn't be out anymore money just by asking. You will still be in the same situation if you asked and got turned down. Maybe they will play nice

Okay, so Epacy was able to upload a couple of vid clips I took with my Sony digital camera so you can hear what it sounds like right now. I think his server might be a little slow so some patience might be required during download.

#1: Idle - sounds pretty damn good

#2: On the throttle (couldn't do it much since I didin't want to disturb the neighbors)

http://24.217.142.150/Ypipe_vid_2.MPG

Hey, all of a sudden I am boosted! lol

i think that whistle you hear is your intake. mine makes that sound now so you might not have a problem with a leak, but you do have a problem with the fitment for sure

It is definitely NOT the intake, trust me. I have had the intake on with the stock ypipe for nearly 8 months now and I know for sure that is not what is causing the whistle. The whistle you hear in that clip is coming from underneath the car, not the engine bay.

I heard the clip... its not the intake... although it doesn't sound like a regular exhaust leak either... did ya check the flex section for leaks?

Btw, GO STUDY FOR YOUR FINAL!

Ya, the flex section seems to be in perfect shape, but I have a stong feeling that the leak is coming from the rear upper manifold as it did last time with the previous pipe.

Just spoke with Jeff Lyell at Budget (owner) and he told me that he has installed his ypipe on over 20 Maximas since he sent my ypipe with no problem of fitment. However, I assured him that we tried every way possible to get it to fit correctly and I emailed him with photos of my problem. I told him that at this point I only wish to help Budget out by giving them ideas of how they can fix this rear section of the ypipe problem. I will update with his response after he views the comparison photos (the same ones I posted in this thread).
