the lower the setting on illuminas the lower the chance of a blowout?

i read on housecors site..that he blew an illumina out with his progress springs and i wonder what could be the reason for this. do the shock 1-5 settings have anything to do with it? maybe if they were lower they would absorb better or something like that?

btw, this is the site

http://www.innerbean.com/housecor/sp..._decision.html

im going to get my suspension done real soon and i don't really want to blow out my shocks. thanks guys

Well, housecor did say that the illuminas are only waranteed up to a 1.5" drop..

Running a very aggressive drop forces the dampers to dampen the same amount of force but in a smaller distance; you can counter the effect with stiffer springs and since the progress springs aren't that stiff compared to the eibach ground control springs it probably caused the strut to blow...

also driving around on bad roads will cause struts to wear out more quickly..

hmm i see, but so many guys are running s-techs and progress springs here, that it makes me feel that it's completly ok. maybe it was just a special case.. since im sure everyone has some bad roads in their town

I think it was almost purely chance... there are bad struts out there every now and then... overall, Illuminas blowing out with S-Techs or Progress have been pretty rare. See if you can find Housecor's thread on his blown strut, I know he started one... that may have more information....

I've had Progress on HPs for about 5k miles and I can say that Progress springs aren't that stiff.... this might be something for me to think about....

Haven't decided on the y-pipe yet... I might try one more time... if I can't fix the bolt, then I guess I'll be selling it...
