Lymby here, I am only a Newbie, and would like to know the recommended break in for a new 2001 Maxima SE. I currently have 1400 miles on the ride, I have floored it to 115mph max, should I have waited to punch it? Also, some recommendations on first oil change, when to change it, go straight to synthetic or keep petroleum for a while? I think know matter what I will change it at 3700, nissan recommended. But i don't know whether to jump into the synthetic or the petroleum. I also have another thread somewhat related. It was labeled "Synthetic Oil?"

Hey how does my name label get updated. I am only a Newbie right now, how long till the next step.

Later :d

u missed a lot already
1.new car's break in period is 0 - 1000 miles
2.during break in period, u should drive it in various speed for proper break in.
3.I didnt listen to nissan, I changed my oil at 1000, 2000, and 5000.
4.no synthetic, from wat I have heard.
5.here is the link for post status

It is like 1000 miles. But if you punched it a couple times already, I wouldn't sweat it. A few times probably won't do any harm. As for oil changes, it's up to you if you want to go to synthetic. I just hit 10k miles and am now going to switch to synthetic. It's your call though. As for your status, keep posting

Is it a bad idea to take a brand new Max on a 3 hour roadtrip each way. Is highway driving a good idea during the break in period. For a 5-speed what rpm is safe for the first 1000 miles?

just vary your speed during the trip. Don't cruise at a constant speed and don't use the cruise control. I would keep it under 4k rpm....

Thanks UMD_MaxSE. I can't wait to get my hands on her...
Keeping it under 4k will be a challenge. So theoretically you can break a car in in less than a day?

btw lymby: I think the next stop is ~50 posts for Maxima Fanatic. But don't quote me...I'm just a brainless newbie.

How long did it take you to get to 1000 miles, a week? How many miles a day did you do? I just want to make sure I do it correctly. This is my first 'new' car. So I never had this 'problem' b4.

I test drove an auto AE and took it to 120mph going up a long, steep bridge...smoooth! Poor sales guy. That car had under 100 miles, but, yo, I think it's OK.

It took me a month to reach 1000 miles......hahahhaha, i somewat did the same thing when i test drove one of there SE's......i started to drive really nicely, then he told me to get on the highway and so i did......VAROOOOM, i floored it and the next thing i new i was hitting 100mph; that salesman didn't seem to entrique by my driven but i wanted to see what it could really do. i only did that because it isn't my car, well not the one i was going to buy....i went to the dealer with my mind set on a fully loaded AE and when we got back, i asked him to test drive the AE.....he was a lil hesitant to let me drive it but none the less, he handed me the key and i drove nicely because that might be the car i buy......i think u'll love ur car, i know i did and don't worry too much about it, this is a durable car and can take a lot of beatens.

I already knew I was not going to buy my car from that dealer, I bought my Car(s) Direct-ly online. I won't say from whom. hehe. They will bring it to my door on a truck . Only thing is I may have to deal with the locals for service/TSBs/etc. Hopefully they won't remember me as the maniac w/ the lead foot.

Oh yeah lymby I was 1/2 right. ~50 to Max Enthusiast.

max rpm at 7k? That's not quite possible since the rev limiter kicks in at 6700rpm. Did you mis-shift it?

thanks for the tips.

have 1600miles on the car now. had the max for 18 days. too many mile too soon. don't matter i love driving the thing. i have begun to punch it. a few quick show offs on the street. love the sound of the exhaust when you pin the pedal to the floor.

as for the test driving. i took an SE with interior out for a spin, came back and told the salesman to package the fully loaded one, with 3 miles on it, i was taking that one home.

without leather the ride isn't the same. going to get the tint in a few weeks time. any recommendation on whether i should get an auto start put in? will the chip in the key make a difference?

I have an auto and i did a manual shift, when i saw the meter go to 7k, i shift to second but didn't feel any limiter kick in, guess i'm lucky.

There is no limit on the rpm(Fuel cut) its just that you have to keep it below 6600rpm, anymore then that its for nothing because the max hp is i think at 6500. you are just making your car's life shorter when you take it to the over the redline.

Of course there is a rev-limiter on our cars. It just kicks in at 6700rpm sharp. If you don't believe me, you can put your car in 1st and floor it and see if you can go above 6700rpm. If it could, then there's something wrong with your car. And FYI, max hp is at 222hp @ 6400 rpm for non-AE's.
