OK, I'm Confused...

I recently removed my stock cd player(6-disc) and now my TRIP button on my steering wheel does not work. I can still see the gauge and it has the temperature reading on it but when I push the button it will not switch to the other options to look at i.e. dte, mpg and so on. Any help would be appreciated!

When I got my new hu put in (non OEM) they told me that I wouldn't be able to use those buttons anymore, bc they were hooked up through the cd player....if I wanted to use them I needed an adapter...or something like that....I didn't want to pay the money for it so I don't use them...

You have to ground a brown wire with white lines (I think that's the one) that is located on one of the ballasts that was attached to your headunit.. this will get your trip button to work.

I just installed an 03 cluster in my 98 and that feature works fine.

Just ground the brown wire with the white stripe. It is terminal 29 on one of your original hu connectors (white 16 pin connector M68)
ref: 02 FSM pg EL-133.

The PAC-SWIX adapter will only make the steering wheel audio controls work. If you want the TRIP button to work, do like the guys above said and ground the brown/white wire that was previously running into the original HU.

there's 2 brown w/white stripe wires. thick and thin. the thin is what you want...the thick one is the negative terminal to your driver side speaker...make sure not to confuse it.

Thank you for this input. I was not aware that there were two brown/white wires back there. It would be hell to get them mixed up!

I've had it for over a year...never installed it. Don't want to waste the time doing it.

There is a guy from Georgia I think who has it (Wild something).
