I can't use my horn! :(

This is annoying me to no end. I had FIAMM horns since 1k mi and I've never had a problem. 2 weeks ago, they just stopped working all of a sudden. So, I checked the fuse box and the horn fuse had blown, so I replaced it. It still didn't work. Today I installed a new horn thinking maybe the horns themselves had died. But, still doesn't work. Whenever I press the horn button, I hear this clicking near the relax box. When I opened the relay box, and pressed lock to make the horn chirp, all I heard was this *ping* sound (sounds like when you pluck the string of a guitar). Everytime I tried to make the horn chirp, one of the relays is making that sound.

Can someone please help w/a solution to this? Is the relay dead or something (can that happen?).

you should be able to get a replacement relay for pretty cheap at a dealer. I've had horn relays go bad before in other cars and they cost about 10 bucks.

Make sure the wires for the horns are making good contact. That happened to me once.

I forgot to mention that when I replaced the horn fuse w/a 10A (as specified), it kept blowing the fuse. When I put in the 20A fuse, it didn't blow but it made that sound I described earlier. Is that a clear indication that it's the relay? Also, do all three relays have to be replaced -- Horn, Horn 2, Horn 3? How can I tell which one it is?

Lol Dave, what am I gonna do, give a deer the finger?! Deer is the #1 reason I need the friggen horn -- I've hit 4 deer in my [short] driving career.

hey man its ur fuse on the security fuse. its a 10amp fuse in the bottom right you should see it. It also controls ur horns, ur horns might of just blown both fuses depends on your setup. I have airhorns so this thing has happen to me a number of times trust me just switch the fuse on the security fuse. if u cant find it just look at the fuse box guide im 100% that it will work!.

let me know if it dont

ps ur relays are fine because when the connection is made when u press ur horn it does work just that the connection isn't complete because ur main fuse is blown out too..

Hey I think Joe's got it right. I had this exact same thing happen to me. So i went through every darn fuse there was and low and behold. The security fuse. Replaced that and wala, everything worked. Hope this works for ya.

No luck guys. Sure enough, the sec. fuse was blown so I replaced it + the horn fuse w/10A as specified. I pressed the horn, nothing happened. Both fuses were blown. Then I put in 20A fuses in each just to see if it would change anything. This time, nothing happened/no sound of horn, but the horn fuse didn't blow while the sec. fuse did. Same thing happened w/25A fuse.

Joe, how did you wire your horns? Maybe I wired the new horn incorrectly. Here's how mine's wired:

ur wiring is fine. i have the same setup wit my air horns with an inline fuse, plus relay from the battery. I don't understand if u changed both them fuses.. that's strange...

I'll have to think on something for u...

Yeh, it's really weird -- why does it keep blowing both fuses?

The horn wire is going to the relay as shown in the picture above. I assumed the hot lead goes to the horn button in our cars. There were diff. instructions if the horn button goes to the ground.

Hey if your horns still dont work try grounding your relay and your compressor to the a common ground, make sure they are grounded together in the same spot see if this will help close the connection within the horns.

Both are grounded to the negative post on the battery. I don't think it matters, but I have like 3 other things grounded to the neg. batt. post. Could that be it..I think I read on here a while back it's not good to ground more than 3 things to the same loc -- does the same hold true for the battery?

try grounding it to a common part of the body. My air horn compressor is grounded to the chasis of the car on a bolt. it works But im not sure about the neg terminal of ur battery. dont hurt to try it, i mean u need to get these horns workin some how. I would also just play around with the relay setup swtich the wires around see if works. Like try 87 for the battery instead of 30, 30 for the horn instead of 87. so on and so on.

dude if the fuse keeps blowing you have a short to ground somewhere--the fuses are there to protect the system-- so there are wires touching somewhere or there is more voltage than there should be coming from some where-- if the relay is louder than usual you should start there

Replaced the relay first, didn't work.

Checked all the wiring & changed grounding to chassis instead of battery, no luck.

Tried switching around the wires on the relay, nothing.

Have no clue what to do now. You guys are absol. sure that the hot lead goes to the horn button, right?
