Question ABS noise
Hey guys...everytime I start my car and move it a few feet, either backing up or pulling out, I hear what sounds like a spring resetting in the front of the car....now I was under the impression and was also told ny the SA at my dealership that the noise is the sound that the ABS makes while resetting or something like that.....
I was pretty comfortable with that but now there is a guy over on the Edmunds board who is saying that Nissans ABS don't make any noise so it may be a problem regarding the right front strut or something like that....he says he is a Nissan Tech so thats why I'm sort of feeling out folks here to see if they have this "sprong" noise

Whenever I start up the car and move a few feet I hear a sound similar to the one you mentioned. It can be tough to hear at times. To me, it sounds like an electronic pump or valve. I think it is normal though. When you start the car, the ABS system goes through a self-test by running the ABS pump. My Accord did the exact same thing.
Here is what a response on Edmunds was:
Just got back from the dealership for that faint
noise(pls see post #104 and 135 for details). Here
is exactly what the tech guy tells me. Note that I
didn't mention ABS at all during the whole
conversation and I may spell some term wrong: "The
sound is normal. It happens whenever you come off
idle and go farward, the motor turn itself on, the
purgvalve control valve pulls gas fume out of
canister(the sound), then recycles through in-take
system". When I ask how come my '92 gxe is not
doing that, he says the government regulated the
design and made Nissan change in '95. So all the
max after '95 have that sound. And he mentions that
the new SUV(Xterra) also makes that sound and it's
much louder.
