yikes...

ok well as many of you know, my mom has a 2000 SE that has 203k and change....so far it has been one REALLY reliable car and hasn't dished out any major problems.....well the other day, she calls me (i'm not at home..i'm in arizona) and tells me that her car was in the shop...i asked why and she told me that one morning (car was still cold) she was going under a highway overpass, accelerating like normal, when all of a sudden the car gives one violent jerk and makes a huge bang sound...she said the engine cut off and the radio and A/C went off and everything, but when she went to start it again, it started by itself....so at that point, being a woman, she was freaking out...she started to accelerate again to get on the highway, and it made the same huge bang, but this time the engine didn't cut off...so she went straight to her mechanic and hasn't heard anything since...

now a couple weeks ago, she took a trip to louisiana where we're going to be moving and my grandpa, who lives there, mentioned that her motor mounts needed replacing...could the motor mounts cause the car to do this? She's going back to louisiana, and she's actually driving my car as we speak but she really needs her car back....anybody know what's up?

sorry for the long post btw....

I would suspect something in the tranny is seizing up or jamming up (broken gear?) occasionally....stalling the engine (or almost stalling it), which in turn would turn off accessories (radio/AC) temporarily. Tough to diagnose something like that though without the car being local....

the tranny has been slipping for as long as i can remember, but only on the 1-2 shift and only when it's cold...just like when it did this....i, too, suspected the tranny when she told me, but i just didnt think it would actually cause the car to almost stall like that...well i'll cross my fingers and hope it's not the tranny, because that would probably cost more to replace than what the car is worth! lol...not too many people out there would be willing to buy a car with over 200k....

my dad's 1993 dodge caravan displayed similar behavior when the forward motor mount broke.

we all say motor mount, but that doesn't mean we're right.

alright, i just got the 'good' news...it was the motor mounts...three of them were replaced for a total of $367....i guess that's better than the tranny going
