2001 Nissan Maxima Coolant Bleeder Valve Location

Anybody know where the coolant bleeder valve is for a 2001 Nissan Maxima. I can't seem to find it, its for my cousin's car and his mechanic can't find it and they did a coolant change but when the fans go on they don't turn off.

TIA,
Diego

i know exactly where it is but dont have a good picture to point it out so i'll try to explain it.

it is on the throttle body side of the engine. there is a metal tube (about 1 in) that runs along that side of the engine. thats the coolant tube. the front part of it connects to the rubber hose that goes to the top of the radiator. about the middle of the tube you will see a small metal dome. on the top of that dome is a small (8mm maybe) bolt. thats the coolant bleeder. just loosen that.

Why would bleeding your coolant fix a problem with your radiator fans?

If there is air in the system, then it will not allow to cool properly because they become like hot pockets in the coolant system. The fans are activated by temperature and the problem is that it gets to a temperature and then the fans turn on. They won't turn off until the temperature goes down. Having hot air pockets in the system does not help, so you need to bleed it to get them out. Most cars have a bleed screw and I just read a 2001 FSM (Factory Service Manual, for those who didn't know) and its says that there is NO bleed screws, in order to bleed the system you need to open and close the radiator a couple of times. Essentially what a bleed screw does. (thanks Mr.Gone for the info)!

5th gen forums are terrible, all you guys worry about is body kits and wheels. Most cars have bleed screws, such as my 1992 maxima and a 2003 maxima, for some reason they decided not to put one on the 2001's.

By the way you guys suck, you guys know nothing !!!!!!!

3rd gens rule.

Erm...I own neither body kit nor a set of rims -- I was asking a legitimate question, not trying to be a smarta$$. Sorry if you took it that way.

Just kinda sad seeing the responses here. I specifically asked for a 2001 and I get I had a 00, now thats not the same. Save space people. If you can't answer whats specifically being asked then don't answer.

Your question was very legitimate and I was glad to answer and explain it, my response was not directed towards you.

The air relief valve is right next to the throttle body -- exactly as described by soonerfan.

Now to relieve the air from the system, you need to fill the radiator and then open the valve completely. Coolant will gush out, don't worry not all of the coolant from the block is going to come out of the air relief valve. Once the coolant stops overflowing from the air relief valve, fill the radiator with coolant and then coolant will overflow again via the valve. Do this a few times and then close the valve -- all air is relieved from the cooling system.

You don't need to do it that way, just drain and refill a couple of times and then run the vehicle on idle, heater blowing on full Hot, with the radiator cap off. It will "burp" all the air out of the system in about 5 or 10 minutes of idling.

Go to youtube, search for richpin06; he shows how to do this on an Altima 4-cyl engine. That is the method to use if you can not locate the bleeder valve. And troop's method is correct too.

Who even buys repair manuals these days? Last manual I bought was for a 1988 Max but then I bought my own PC and got rid of all my manuals in a yard sale. It's all on the internet these days so all one has to do is type the correct words in to locate it.

I like your style. You are, however, about ten years too late to this thread.
