Confirm SES reset instructions.

I have tried to look this up several different ways.

I have a 2K GXE the SES light has come on. I know it's a sensor but the car seems to be running fine.

Would like to reset the SES light......Think of selling her to CARMAX.

To reset all I have to do is disconnect the battery for one hour or more which resets the ECU, which resets the SES light. Is this correct?

THanks

Walt

you can reset it, but if the failure is still present then the ecu will cycle the code back out. the light will come back on after a certain amount of starts/miles driven.

...I guess the bigger question here is, do you know why the light is even coming on? I'm assuming you had the code(s) pulled...

Truth be told I am fine with that. I just want to take the car in for an estimate without the SES light displaying.

I do know that it's a sensor as I had the code pulled.

So my understanding of how to reset is correct. Just disconnect the battery for an hour or more....right?

you have to disconnect both battery cables for 25 hours to clear the ecu. but if the problem is there it will light up again. if the problem is fixed or goes away, so will the light on it's own after a while.

I see... It not an immediate reset. The ECU has to see that everything is fine 1st before it will turn off the light. Wow 25 hours damn that's a long time.

Hmmm.

you only need to remove the negative cable. i used to do mine overnight (8hrs or so) and it was gone in the morning. this was before i got harrison software and run it through my old laptop. i had an o2 sensor issue after headers and used this method many times before the software and it worked everytime.

Cool that seems to make more sense. Afterall I have had the SES light come on and have had the car repaired at the dealer in less than 25 hours. When I pick it up there is no SES light.

dealer doesn't disconnect the battery to reset the light.
