Dash Kit Question

My max is 2000 GLE automatic - with all the options (heated seats too). The drawback to this is that one of the 'options' it came with was the plastic fake as *ELL looking woodgrain on all the doors and shift console. I'd love to put in a dash kit (brushed alum) to get rid of this, but all of the kits i've seen are flat, which would still leave the edges of all pieces to be seen with woodgrain. Do I need to visit the junkyard and find some plain black pieces and replace all the woodgrain with black, then do the dash kit upgrade? I'm not going to go through all that trouble to fix this - but is there an easier solution?

You could paint the pieces you have now with a flat black and then cover them with the dash kit. You wouldn't have to do a great job painting it since you would just cover it up anyway, but it would probably mean you would want to leave the dash kit on when it comes time to sell it...

nah dont get the aluminum, keep what you have. esp if you have leather seats. of course people will hate on you because of your classy interior, but you have to ignore that

fake woodgrain looks "classy" on a sports sedan?
it was nissan's attempt to put the "luxury" in GLE

and if he has the woodgrain then he has leather seats (both come on a GLE)

Now I'm confussed. I have the tan/brown interior (hate it). I want to get a molded dash kit but it seems that only the wood would look the best. Anyone beg to differ on this color combination? How about CF?

Yeah that was a good one, but I do actually like the wood look or at least the example picture they have on the wood trim site. Looks clean to me, not too much. I see my only other option being CF. I think the silver would be hideous w/ my color interior.

ahhhhhhhh. got ya.
i cant argue with it being plastic made to look like wood, but i dont care i still like it. Would it break the bank to use real wood though, or at least a thin layer on top of the plastic mold

According to the wood trim site they use real products (wood, CF, etc)

yea, thats basically what mine looks like stock. only difference is that the factory vent trim above the headunit isnt wood, its the color of the trim around the headunit. if thats real wood, then that would be really nice compared to the plastic wood, and its not going overboard. im gonna find you a pic of some wack wood kit, gimme a minute.
To answer your other question,Woodtrim.com(joshuatree?) apparently manufactures their own kits. In my woodtrim link posted above, i pulled up the kit for a 00-01 max and found this.......Manufacturer Info:
Woodview
Woodview Products Inc. was founded in 1993 with the vision of creating a superior line of Dash Overlay Kits. Woodview manufacturers the Woodview line of Molded Dash kits, the Heritage line of Genuine Wood Dash kits, and the Dash-Tek line of Performance Race inspired Carbon Fiber, Kevlar, and Specialty Finish Dash kits.

They are basically the same price, and give you the same pieces tho.

Im gonna give these two kits the thumbs down. the stock setup couldve had one or two more pieces (and couldve made them not plastic), but this 32-39 whatever piece kit is waaaaaay too much.

Yeah I agree that those 30-40 piece flat kits are too much and give a real cheesy look to the interior at least in wood anyway. So my choices are CF or Burl for woodtrim, hmmmm, this may take a while. Man thats a lot for 9 pieces though! This wood be so much easier if my Sports Sedan Had a sportier interior, like black or gray.

Hello,

I have a question about the autodash molded kit. After you install it for a while and you want to remove does it cause damage or leave marks on the orighinal dash underneath? Thank you.

well, i would guess that you get the kit to stay on with some type of adhesive, which would leave some residue on your original dash. maybe youd be able to clean it off depending on what you used to stick it on.

No. But it will be quite the nightmare using a heatgun and your barehands to remove the peices. Assuming that none break in the process, you can simplay use goof-off to strip any residual adhesive.
