Questions about exhaust
I have a question about Exhaust tone. In catback systems such as Cattman (which uses a straight through muffler to my knowledge) how is that they keep the exhaust note quiet and refined? Which type and what length resonator do they use. Is it the resonator length and type that plays a major role or is it also the muffler?
I am asking this becuase i have a Apexi WS2 that i had put on a couple of weeks ago but was loud as hell. I am running a warpspeed resonated b pipe which i think it the culprit in making it so loud. I was thinking if i got a perforated 45" length resonator would make a drastic improvement.
BTW i am running a test pipe and Hotshot headers.

They use a very long resonator- I don't have pictures of it and I belive Stromung has their own design of that resonator, all Stromung exhausts have a deep melow tone to them with verrry torelable exhaust note. I would highly recomend something like a Magnaflow 6" round resonator, I had one that was 22" long and it sounded really good but the exhaust shop who did the piping wasn't the greatest at welding and bending pipes and I ended up ditching that system for a ricey EVO1, and now I got a Stromung (which makes Mossy and Cattman exhausts).

I have a test pipe with HS headers and Cattman exhaust and it sounds sexy, its not resonated or anything- just a straight pipe from Warpspeed. Compared to CustomMaxima resonated Test pipe I had on the car before- with Greddy EVO and Ypipe, the exhaust got raspier with the Warpspeed pipe. It sucks cause its the only part of my exhaust that is not stainless and its showing signs of rust slowly- not even a year old yet. Maybe one day I will go back to Custom Maxima resonated style test pipe thats in stainless steel. As far as high flow cats go- none of them last long and they cost alot of $$$, look up Random Tech stories... plenty of bad stories on the 4th gens.

mike, so are you saying that cattmans exhaust is quiet due to the resonator. I looked around today and found a 45" resonaton. Think that would help to quiet things down or should i go with the cattman b pipe?
I know the test pipe isn't helping but i have to use it with my supercharger and my boost actuated exhaust cuttout

i've been happy with my HKS rear section. i have a cutsom made 2.5" mandrel bend B-pipe with a 22" resonator(it's really a cherry bomb, but it serves the purpose). my exhaust is a little on the loud side but not too bad. here are two sound clips

I had to take off my cattman catback. It was too loud for me, don't know if it was because of the y pipe. Anyway I swapped the rear section with a frankencar and it has a better tone and no drone. Thinking of installing a straight pipe for the resonator to hear it a little more.
