Opinions on the 2002-03 Stock Navi System?

Looking at a Max with it as one of the options. Is it worth anything?

They are rare, I've never seen a Max with stock Navi.

Played with one at a dealer when i was buying my car. They had one on the lot. I wasn't that impressed. But they are rare as hell...

if going aftermarket, i can pick up the panneling for the stock nav system at courtesynissan.com, does anyone recommend an aftermarket navigation system that is good, will fit in the stock navigation hole, and not that exspensive. ?

I don't think the stock Navi in the 5.5th Gen is worth the extra money. It runs off of CD-ROMs instead of DVD-ROMs so you have to have several CD's in order to cover the entire US instead of a single DVD-ROM. This wouldn't be so bad I guess but each regional cd is so damn expensive. What I plan to do for Navi is get the AVIC-N2 which is an all in one unit that plays DVD's, CD's, MP3's, Navi, trip computer and more.

I have the avic n2.

Much better than any oem navi I have ever used.

+ it's a killer head unit for a really nice system.

I have one and I love it. Most people complain that it is cd-based, but I don't travel out of my cd region that often. My wife has a 350z with factory navigation and the quality is identical. Matter fact I like my navigation better because it is touch screen, her navigation is not.

It is a little difficult to use sometimes. But the CD-based part is no problem if you don't live near the edge of a map area, or travel all that much. But if you don't travel all that much, why do you need a nav? Because they are fun and I love my gadgets. OEM navs are rare. I wanted a blue max with a nav, but there wasn't one near the east coast...so I got a polished titanium...even rarer. Aftermarket is probably better when you come down to it.

Love mine and the Movies too!

I Love mine! The birdseye view (like a nap -of-the earth view) is somewhat unique. I love the touch screen and the number of saved destinations. I didn't think that they were that rare. When I bought the car new, I wanted the grey lustre and the only one they had came with the Navi - they threw it in at the same price as without it. The only issue I've had was when I wanted to mod it to play DVD movies. The 2k2 - 2k3 Navi needed internal wiring changes to use any of the video add-on options out there. It seems that in uses a hori and vert synch (makes for a crystal clear screen). I just got the internal wiring done and recieved it and the mod from P&L Electronics and wired it up (yesterday) and it works beautifully. Now I love it even more. That will be in a separate post soon with pics. I believe it is the first 2k2-2k3 OEM Navi that is playing DVD movies.
If you are getting a 2k2-2k3 used with the OEM Navi, I wouldn't replace it but I probably wouldn't pay what Nissan sells it for either.

I love mine, but if you are not buying it already installed with the car I would go aftermarket. It would be a lot cheaper and you can usually do a lot more with an aftermarket one.

Thanks to everyone for their input. The car I'm looking at already has the navi, I was just curious if it was worth any extra consideration when negotiating the price. It sounds like it does pretty well for one of the first navi systems that was available from Nissan.

Shaydz, how much did your conversion to also play DVDs cost you?

Dom at P&L Electronics would need to tell you what it would cost to rewire the Navi unit to the RGB unit. The RGB unit itself was $125 in a group buy. I know the internal rewiring was pretty extensive though. His number is 718-763-7367 at P&L Electronics. Great guy and straight up.
Using a portable DVD player right now but getting a break on a DVD/TV player/tuner from a relative (Fahrenheit DVD /TV player).
Audio handled by the CD Changer mod to in-line audio for my Jukebox. So sound through Bose system w/o FM modulation. That whole thing was around $150 I think (Did it a year ago).

Hope this helps.

Pionner finally brought out a double din NAvi, thinks its AVIC-D1 not to sure. I'm looking into that. It comes with 2 cd slots, 1 for your music etc and a seperate one for the navi which none of the others come with. As well it has the basics, Navi, MP3, DVD all that good stuff. As well as the Vehicle dynamics option and rear view camera option as well. By far the best navi deck out there in my eyes
