we need another car in the family, unfortunately, the car is for me, meaning no more 2k1 super black max gxe we need another car, but cant afford another max caliber car, and obviously, my dad wasn't gonna let me drive around in a car better than his(although he did until now), this is why he wouldn't let me mod my max. here is the deal, my dad wants to spend ONLY $20k, thats for the car, tax and title and liscence, any mods, stereo upgrade(if needed, which it will), and even the first year of insurance. i was thinking of a 97-99 max se or gxe, no leather, no bose, sunroof would be nice, power options also, how much do you guys think one of those would cost? the lower, the better. and if you guys have other suggestions, please, feel free to add, i need all the help i can get. i want something reliable, thats why i wanted a used max, low miles, less than 50k. any other cars out there(used) that you guys feel is good? (also consider insurance cost, i'm still 18, turning 19 in a week, yippee) so a used BMW, benz, jag, etc. out of the question.

MKIV Supra...

You can always get a job for the insurance and the fun of driving will be priceless.

Or... there's always the Accord V6, new Altima (but it'll be 4cyl), A4, Passat, etc. I think a 4th gen is the best choice, but I'm a bit biased. That way you can get the options you want under your price cap. If you can find a 5th gen optioned well for that price, go for it.

well....

wouldn't a stripped down one mean a 5-speed? i cant drive a 5-speed, and don't you think that it would look wierd to have 2 5th gen gxe's in the same driveway? and besides, i've looked for 5th gen gxe's, used, and i usually find them for around $18-19k, but then again, i can find a loaded 97-99 for a few grand less, making me think that one w/o leather, bose would be cheaper, around $13k for a gxe. the less i spend on the car, the more i have for mods, which i want, fstb, rsb, rims and tires, exhaust, y-pipe, body kit, subs and amp, etc. so even if i did buy a 5th gen gxe, by the time the tax and insurance was paid for, i wouldn't have squat for mods. need help, remember, no leather, v6, automagic, those are the main requirements, and, needs to be reliable.

Personally, I don't think that having two Maxes in the same driveway will look funny but with all the mods that you want to add, it definitely looks like you're going to have to dip under $15 K. Hey, why don't you go over to the 4th gen forum and see what they have to say. Good luck.

Well..

If you wanna go with a 4th gen Max, I'm sure you'll be able to find a nicely equiped car that meets your price range. Then you can mod the heck out of it. Good luck car hunting!

You can get a GXE auto for $21,000 (discount). If you wait longer, you can get a large rebate.

hahaha! You should see my parent's driveway back home. They've got four (4) Toyota Camry's parked there. An old 85 that my mom used to drive, a 90 that my dad used to drive and then handed down to me, and now dad drives a 98 LE, and my mom got a 2k XLE. Our neighbors have 3 Subaru Legacy's. So are they and my parents weird? Nah...it just means that they like Subaru's and that my parents like Camry's

If your dad wants to stay at or under $20k "out the door" then that's sorta tough with a new import V6, but you'd have your choice of used cars. If you really like Maximas (this *is* maxima.org! ) I'd learn how to drive stick (it isn't that hard) and get a new (or used) 2k1 GXE 5-spd! I suspect that Nissan dealers will probably be offering some pretty strong incetives/rebates/financing at the end of the year with the upgraded 2k2's coming out. If your dad wants to stick with a new car, definitely check out the 2k1 Accord LX I-4. You should be able to get one of those for less than $20k out-the-door, but it wouldn't be a V6

Ad in the paper for the Nissan dealership here

2001 Maxima SE
$20,999 3.9% APR

2001 Maxima GLE
$23,999 3.9% APR

When does everyone expect the prices to hit the right point for a new 2001? The prices above shocked me at first... How low will they go? What will Nissan offer? When are the 2002's coming out?

i was considering a 2k or 2k1 gxe, but then i would really have no money for mods, lets say i get a 2k/1 gxe for $17k, then there is tax on it, and the first years insurance, that will make it right at $20k(i think), so where are the mods? i dont really care for leather, cause this is oklahoma, my last car had leather in it, and on a typical summer day, i'd burn my a$$ skin off when i sit in the car(my car is parked outside), if i get a max, then i dont care for the bose either. main thing is low miles, nice v6(or even a 4-banger, if its nice), most of the power features, and something recent would be nice too(97-99). i'm trying to find a 2k gxe, they do look sweet, with a low price tag, and if i do, i'm gonna try to get my dad to "invest" in some mods(doubtful), but he is set at this $20k final price. i would buy mods myself, but i have no money , i'm just a poor college student trying to get a head in life. are there any other cars worth considering that will fit my budget, i remember that a lot of you guys had plenty of cars before your max, were any of those good?

Hmm..

Well, if you wanna mod the car, go with a 4th Gen, then you'll have plenty of money to add extra parts on her! But you can get a 5th gen and spend all the cash. What to do?
