Agggh, car won't idle

I was driving down the road the other day and my car just died. Since then, the car will not hold an idle (VERY inconvenient!) I tried changing the MAF. The car idled ok the first time I started it. However, after I turned it off, it wouldn't hold an idle again.

I had a similar problem back in January. It was the IAC (idle air control) valve. I took it into the dealer and had a bad experience -- it cost about $700 to fix. I don't have another $700 to throw into this car to make it work properly! This is pissing me off.

Any ideas??

$700?!?!?! jesus man, you got raped.

i have a TL-S and the IACV (idle air control valve) is located on the throttle body. it's very easy to get to (unbolt the throttle body) and the part alone is less than $100 plus the gaskets which where about $5-$10.

perhaps if you clean the TB that may help as well.

does anyone have a picture of the IACV? I'd REALLY like to not take it to the dealer again. How exactly do you clean the throttle body?

they sell throttle body cleaner at auto parts store. take it off and spray away.

on my TL, the IACV is connected to the TB. MAYBE its the same on the maxima TB. good luck.

it is possible your maf (mass air flow sensor) failed....

any check engine light "CEL" or service engine soon "SES" light on?

check the FAQ's for the process of pulling the error code...

if it is the maf.... call up Dave Burnette from Southpoint Nissan in Texas for a new maf...it will cost you $84 and then some for shipping...

my 2k2 se had similar symptons.... after engine stalled on freeway, it would not idle after restarting....towed it home...next morning, restarted car and it would idle but roughly and could not rev past 2300 plus rpm...

ordered 2k0-2k1 maf from dave with 20$ fedex overnight shipping... next day, installed maf, and wholla... car purs like new and revs like new....only problem was i had a ses code showing the iat (intake air temperature ) high circuit error code. didn't get the info about removing iat resistor/diode from bad maf to new maf before i took it to dealer... service manager said same error code and maf failure, although i kept quiet about the iat (p0113 code) problem... got it fixed under some "exclusionary" emmisions warranty otherwise it would had cost me $780....plus they kept the maf sensor i had just ordered.

just my 2 cents...
