Side Mirrors....
Side Mirrors....
Some POS stole the glass out of my side mirrors. Is it possible to snap in new mirrors without cracking the tabs on the back? Or do I have to go for a new assembly?
Thanks

I know I can get the glass, it has the plastic clips on the back that lock into this grid like thing. But everyone I talk to has said that the clips snap off when you go to install them..

Thats cause those people werent careful. If you took apart your mirror, you'll see it is setup like: Theres a plastic piece (call it 'piece A') connected directly to the power mirror motor. Then there is a 'frame' piece (piece B) the connects to piece A.
Lastly, the glass is just stuck to the frame with adhesive, there may be clips, I dont remeber, but i think its just stuck on with a putty like glue.
The part they are saying breaks off is probably these two tabs on the back of the frame piece. The back off the frame has two tabs that slide up,and into these two slots on piece A. Those are located on the upper half of the back of the frame. On the lower half, the frame is actually connected with two clips. If you look at it from the side they would look like:
[----> o That 'c' clip snaps onto a plastic rod on piece A.
You can carefully do the following and get it all off with breaking anything.
Pry the glass off,the glue is in the middle, its about a inch and half diameter circle. (there may be clips, like i said, but i dont think so).
After you get the glass off you can see the two lower clips, and two upper tabs.Pull from the bottom to release the two clips, and once those are off you need to **** wit it and slide the tabs out, youll see what i mean.
I had to replace my mirror and tried everything to fix it before i copped a new one for $180, so i took the thing apart countless times. Holla if you need some clarification on this, maybe i could help you not break it
Thanks

you need the glass and this frame piece the glass is glued to. the frame piece is snaps into that grid looking thing. if you go to the delaer to buy a new glass piece,it would assume it comes with that frame piece attached already.
word. if you buy the whole assembly directly from nissan, it'll cost you anywhere from $149-$189. those are the prices i found. i copped mine for around 149 from nissanparts.org. I might have been able to find a cheaper place, but my state inspection was already overdue,so i needed it quick. I was gonna steal one of somebody elses car, but then I'd damage the part i needed, the black piece that sits flush against the outside of the door.
good lookin out, thanks!!
i am probally going to use a friends auto body shops # to get the galss from the dealer at the reduced price. their like 20 each.
