Car is stalling..

hey guys, so i bought a 2000 SE 5spd, but when i come to stop at traffic lights and i put the clutch in, sometimes the car revs dip really low(under 500 rpm) then bounce back up to 1000, this is with no gas, sometimes the rpms will continue dipping until they go to 0 and the car stalls, even in neutral this happens sometimes. If i sit the car in the parking lot in neutral and the clutch is in, and i rev it, sometimes the revs will go lower than 500 and continue to 0 and stall, WHAT IS THE PROBLEMMMM?? thanks for your help

Mine Too!!!!

I'm having this same problem as well as many others here on the .org. Nobody seems to be entirely positive on what causes this. Some will say coils, some will say MAF, some will say just clean the throttle body (TB). I will say that I cleaned my TB and MAF (although not suggested by some, but mine turned out okay) and the problem stopped for a while, but it is back again. It was then said by someone that they cleaned their TB every 6 months. So I'd try cleaning the TB 1st, and go from there. You can get the TB cleaner at most any parts stores, and here's the link to a write-up on how to do it. Good luck, and let me know how it works out for you, or any other solutions you come up with on how to fix it...

Had a similar problem and cleaning the throttle body took care of it for me. It's a relatively easy do-it-yourselfer. I'd definitely start there since it's free.

Good luck!

If it still has probs after the throttle body (never thought of that), replace the MAF. I put a new one in my 2000SE and it runs great. It used to do the exact same thing yours is doings now.

Come to think of it, TB cleaning may be in order for me. With the weather heating up, and the AC on, it does get a *little* low on RPM's, but not anywhere near as bad as it did pre-MAF replacement.
