home depot grill

irish... i noticed yout HD grill on your website. have you noticed any increase in the engine temp(less ventilation, i suspect) because of the mod ? i have been thinking about doing the same thing to protect the cooler, since i got a few too many dents on by small rocks or gravels.

did u pre-cut it using a paper board or something like that ? still have the measurements ?

thx

when I cut it, I made a cardboard template, and then cut the mesh.....sorry, don't still have the cardboard. Also, no to my knowledge it has had no effect on ventilation.....

All you need to do is go to Home depot, buy a pack of steel gutter guards, cut them to shape, and secure then BEHIND the factory upper grill (you can also do the lower grill). There are a few pics on my homepage, but they're not all that good....it just takes some patience and ingenuity, but there are several ways to do it....

and for the bottom part of the grill, do you have to go under the car behind the bumper?...

by the way, can you just by the yellow bulb to make ur fogs look like that?...

thx for the info irish. how long have you had the grill on ? notice any rusting ? i know they are galvanized steel, and should be slightly protected from rusting...

ticko, i looked at the space in between and should be able to just slide the grill in, might need someone's help to hold it in place while you secure it thou.

1. I painted it black, since my grill is painted black and I have a black car. FYI, chrome paint is NOT very "tough" and will chip easily.

2. For the bottom part, it is attached in FRONT of the vertical supports, cut to fit the shape of the opening.

3. NO....yellow bulbs will not be as yellow as mine. I've used them, and they're not that yellow. Mine has a yellow capsule and uses my STOCK bulbs...do a search, there are several how-to's on the subject.

1. No rust problems, and I put them on last year BEFORE the winter...last summer as I recall. Only tough part with galvanized is that you have to prime it really good with a certaian primer that sticks to galvanized. Regular paint doen'st stick as well.

2. Yes, if you cut it right, it will stay in there fine while you secure it. I used zip ties hidden where you can't see them easily.

Are you talking about the rubber bulb covers they sell in the ricer section at pep boys? I just bought a set of red ones because I needed a way to cover the opening that was left when I removed my breather hose from my Injen. I installed a filter on the valve cover opening to help keep oil out of my intake manifold.

Just a dumb question: do you think we might actually be doing some harm by getting all the oil out of the intake system? Is is remotely possible that we need some to blow in there to lubricate moving parts? Just a thought.

You sure you're in the right thread George?

my site is working fine

anyways I went out and took some flash pics so you can see some detail....in the day it's black, it just looks gray because of the flash. Also it's very dirty since it just rained here...

anyhow, look closely and see if you can find where the zip ties are

I also have a short write-up on my cardomain page that is slightly different from Irish's if you want Cobalt (pg. 11). It has the exact measurements of my lower grill if you need them.

thx spring02 and irish, good job ! spring02: i have a 2001 gxe black and metall tint as well. just got the 3m clear bra in the mail, going to put that on one of these days. not sure if i want to paint the grill (sounds like much work to me), nor do i want it silver color. i might actually just spray it with rubberized black paint(much salt here, in Toronto). i might have to leave a small hole in it so the engine block heater plug in could get thru. will post some pic after i am done with it.
