e-brake light on - sensor?

Hi guys,

My e-brake light is staying on - not in conjucnction w/the battery light so not an alternator issue. My fluid is full, so I'm thinking it is just the contact sensor for the e-brake...where is it???

Anyone delt w/this before???

Who cares about the sensor, you know if your e-brake is engaged or not... its a lever.

It happened to me also, but went on and off for just a while.

Check your Nissan manual for how to check on the e-brake (I didn't bother with it though), it has something to do with the number of clicks.

I know it's not engaged or anything, I'm not worried about that.

The real issue is that if it's on I won't know if the brake fluid is low - the dash light's other function that is more critical...

Besides, driving around with a red idiot light on is just plain annoying.

If the fluid is fine, then it's likely the parking brake switch. The switch is mounted under the center console, near the parking brake lever. Once you have the console off, it should be obvious.

or the level switch could be bad, its easier to get to than the e-brake switch.

unplug it and see if the light goes out, if it doesnt, jump it and ck again. im not sure abuot the 5gen, but sometimes the float can get stuck too

Resurrection of an old post, but I just got the Brake idiot light on today. I double check the parking brake and it's disengaged. Turned the car off, let it sit for a few mins and turned it back on with the Brake light still on.

Did anyone have any luck on what triggered the light to come on? I'm going to check the fluid level and float.

Fill your fluid. Mine did that and I had the car apart and couldn't figure it out. Read on another car forum that it was the brake fluid running low. I love forums........even if it doesn't pertain to a Maxima.

btw......hawt RC51!

checked the fluid, it was low but I know my pads are about done, so I didn't want to fill it. I used the emergency brake to park this time, started her up and the light was gone. I guess the sensor was just stuck this morning. All is good for the Max for now.

I believe it. My buddy has one and he tracks his at VIR. He totaled his first RC51 there a few years back, then took the money and bought another one exactly like it. His partout from his first laydown netted him about 6g's.
