The Dealer Can Bite Me New TB

Just an update. I bought a used TB for my Max. The car only had 10k on it and the numbers matched my TB. I got it really cheap at $125.00. I had cleaned my TB when I first got the car and immediately had a high idle and CEL. Well the code being kicked out is for the IACV which is 300.00 aftermarket or 700.00 from the dealer because it comes with the whole TB as one unit. I'll be getting this part soon and posting the results. If this doesn't fix my situation then I'll change out the ECU. After that I'll have to swallow my pride and take it to the stealership.

Same thing happened to me with my wife's 03 Altima. Cleaned the TB, with carb cleaner, being careful to wipe what I sprayed, but I'm sure some got past the TB. CEL came on. Thankfully it was under warranty still so was replaced. Weird, did this on my 91 sentra a few times while I owned it w/o problems.

i really hate to say this because i'm not sure how it will come across. but, if you are throwing codes and causing enough damage to require $700 worth of parts to your car by cleaning a throttle body, you should probably keep your wrenches away from your car.

Well jjames I'm sure guilty of not doing my research on how to clean a TB on an 02 Max. I've always cleaned the TB of all my cars and never had a problem. Turns out the 02 Max uses a wire to control the opening and closing of the TB so following the directions on the intake cleaner's label will cause problems with our cars. I must have messed up the IACV in the TB. My lesson learned is to be more careful in the future.

dgmaxse: What part did the dealer replace to fix your wife's Altima?

i hear ya. that's the problem w/ cars these days. i don't know how old you are but in my first car i could pretty much crawl in the engine bay and work on it. today you need to be sooooo careful, and consult the service manual first.
