Need test-fit car for 1st set of new Cattman headers

Be the very first anywhere to install the new Cattman header/downpipe system. I won't use this email go go into detail, but note these critical upgrades to our very successful New Zealand-made header design:

1. Ceramic-coated mild steel to 304 stainless;
2. MIG to TIG welding;
3. Swaged tube to hand-built 3-1 collectors;
4. 10mm to 12mm head flanges; and,
5. Consistently formed mandrel bent tubing.

We need a customer right away in southern California with a 95-01 Maxima w/ a VG30DE motor (no swaps) and automatic transmission. [The headers were developed on a 6-speed ‘02 so we want to install in a car with the VQ30 motor and auto tranny to make sure the fit is universal.] This will be the first production set of our new US header design, so we'll use the installation to confirm the accuracy of the manufacturing fixture it was made on.

Our header fabricators are in the San Diego area, and the car will need to be dropped off anywhere from ½ to 1 day. I don't want this to seem like spam, so I'll just say that the price for this set of headers is discounted $50, and the free installation will save hundreds. Please contact Cattman Performance ASAP at 520.730.9309 if interested, I’m still catching up on email after getting back from vacation and might not see an email or PM right away.

Sorry for not getting back to this thread sooner, I'm not getting any maxima.org thread or PM notifications for some reason.

Glad to say that we have a volunteer, and he's on deck tomorrow morning (Monday, 22 August). This will be the last development step in the process, just a matter of gathering materials and subcomponents, and some of that's squared away already.

If you want to be on the notification list for when these go on sale (i.e. when we actually start receiving them), please write to me at bcatts@cattman.com and I'll put your email on the notification list.

I'd say 2-3 weeks at this point because I don't think that SFR has ordered the tubular steel yet. The initial price will be $850, which will have to go up if we can't push the production costs down with some production experience.

Dang if I was going to give my car up as a gopher for a whole day, I'd want a lot more than $50 off on my headers, forget the install, I'd do it myself anyway. Crap.

I have paid for mine already and am on back order... I suppose I should buy springs and struts in the mean time to keep myself occupied...

Obviously you're aware of it, but I will point out to others that you didn't order the part from Cattman Performance.

It is our firm policy not to charge the customer until an order ships, unless its a custom part (JWT ECUs), group deal, or special arrangement (or an occasional error).

Why not? Because its an unethical business practice, and because people tend to be more patient when the money's still in their pocket.

Perfectly understandable, but for the guy who's buying this first set, that translates to a savings of $50 on the price, $25 on the shipping, and 6-8 hours of labor, which could run well over $500 at SoCal shop rates. Not a bad deal at all.

I'd note that it doesn't take the shop that's making these anywhere near 7-8 hours to install headers, they can do it in less than three.
