As I was getting an oil change today, I wanted to make sure they used the correct oil filter since the mech already mistakened it as an I30 with the VG30DE. But upon looking at their oil filter catalog, the one specified for an 02 was 1365, while the 03+ I35 was 1356. Furthermore, the FX35, and I30s, Maximas, all used 1356. How come for 02 my car uses a 1365? The 1356 was at least 1/3 bigger than the 1365, did I get the wrong filter because of a misprint? Is this a serious problem which I need to get the "correct" filter put in ASAP? Thanks

I just checked on Napaonline.com and on there it shows the 1356 filter. So I guess I do have the wrong one? Should I get it changed? Or is it OK to use?

You can also use a Mobil 1 M1-105 filter. I use them on my car and they are as good, if not better than the OEM filters.

So can someone answer the question whether I should get the filter replaced? Since it is smaller....

look at the printout the service manager gave you, it should tell you the proper part #....i've been using the "bad" filter (65F00) since my car was new with no problems. of course i'll be making the change to the "good" filter (9E000) at the next oil change...

yup. i honestly dont know if ANYONE on the board has had any failures due to the cardboard endcaps, and i doubt it'd even happen at all if you changed the filter as often as you should...but i've read about fram filters failing because of the cardboard so i'm not going to take my chances from here on out. there's a 65F00 in my car right now though, and i don't think twice still about going WOT or anything like that...so do as you wish

The difference between you guys and my situation is that I have a smaller incorrect oil filter in right now. Won't it fail or something due to too much volume?

Go get the 9e000 and change the oil again. Solution is simple as that.

Maybe I forgot to mention that I don't change my own oil. Guess I will just go back to the shop and get the correct filter put in. Thanks for the help.

My Bad, I meant to say use the Mobil 1 M1-108 Filter. Better size for the maxipad.
