Just over a week old and experiencing my first MAF failure.

wow... this was wierd. the acceleration had been a little inconsistent, and the seller said he got an o2 code every once in a while (i pulled a p0152 twice and a p0138 once with no other symptoms), but all seemed well. i was on my way home after picking up my daughter from pre-school and accelerated to pass someone and then...

it made a much louder sound from the intake for a split second, kinda like hitting the nitrous... and then lost power, like running out of fuel, but the tank was 7/8 full. i lifted throttle and tried again, sounded and felt JUST like fuel pump failure. i was coming to a red light, as i stopped the car stalled. i tried to crank up and it would sputter and die. so i sputtered it to the side of the road so traffic could pass, tried a few more times. electronic fuel pressure gauge was reading 45ish KOEO, i opened the hood, unplugged the MAF and fired it up.. idled alright, closed the hood and drove another 1/2 mile or so to my house in FMEM.

soo... anyone have that new part number for the MAF without the housing thats now available on 02-03s?

There is no such thing as a 02-03 MAF without the tube, you need the whole assembly. Its kinda expenssive- 500 bux. Or you can get a 01 MAF and do the IAT trick to it.

I thought that you could just get the maf for like 80 bucks.....I didn't know you had to get the whole tube....

on the 5gens i know you can, but recently i rear of a few 5.5s getting just the maf without the tube, im trying to find the threads, google isnt helping... its a thread i posted in.

i said something along the lines of 'can someone verify the part number for the maf by itself and that its for 02+'

something like that.

in this forum (the only one i seem to go in) and within the last week... or two.

post 17 in the sticky thread mass linked

Welcome to the world of factory Supersessions.
Here is our listing.
0601-0402 VQ35DE - 22680-6N200 which changes to 22680-6n201

0600-0601 VQ30DE & 0499-0600 VQ30DE - 22680-AD200 changing to
22680-AD201 which goes to a service file TSB to change the element.

0402- VQ35DE 22680-AM600

I hope this helps.

Ken
so build dates before 04/02 get an earlier maf.

also i noticed on car-part.com, it gives a split for -11/01 or 12/01-

22680-6N210-Before Dec of 01 Production

I JUST called Nissan to veriffy that ther is NO MAF element, you have to buy the tube. I am friends with everyone at the dealership since I used to work for them as a tech years ago. I had them check for TSBs, only 00-01s can get the MAF without the Tube.

read the part about not having to replace the tube though... several have heard it. i dont think its a bosch unit... even if it is, i dont care, as long as it comes with a warranty.

so... i pulled out the MAF to day to take a gander at it... and what do you know. its a Bosch HFM5

seriously, looks JUST like a Porsche 996.606.12400

no wonder they fukcing suck.

anyway, if GBAUER and EastSideMaxima dont post p/ns for the sensor by itself for the 5.5s, ill either do a 2y001 conversion or convert to a non-bosch sensor, like a pierburg...

Hey man from personel experience just do the 2001 conversion, I did mine last weekend and man it works, took me a while to have the b@ll$ to do it
but finally i did man the easiest thing iv'e done to my car the iat whire is on the side of the unit just transfer that to the new one(MAKE SHURE YOU SAUDER IT) Then reset your ecu, they say you need a reflash but i didn't get one and the car is fine, I was woried about performance if i didn't get the reflash done but if i'm beating 2003 srt4s with intercooler and exaust from a roll, and 05's with exaust then i think i'm fine, all i have is injen cold air intake and exaust from the y pipe back with no cat.

okay so... $68 later and ive got a running max again.

IAT didnt require soldering, just crimp terminals provided, which was cool. its amazing that a raw thermistor and a tube be the difference between $80 and $380

actually, scratch the tube, the 2y001 came with a tube. go figure.

id also like to thank stillen for making me a fukcing machinist for a day. the stupid filter adapters bolt holes werent threaded deep enough for the OEM maf/airbox bolts, so the bolts bottomed out, the previous owner didnt realize this, water got past the seal because it wasnt tight, rusted the bolts partially on the inside, so you couldnt see it, and two of them snapped.

drill and tap set got to see some action, took it to the track later that night and got decent runs for the conditions (and my first time out with the max)

So you can just get the sensor and not the whole tube? Where did you get it from? (im assuming you got it off the internet)

got it from the local dealer. sensor came with a new tube, you need to transfer the IAT thermistor from the old sensor.

The resistor is the part that should NOT be bad. You take the resistor out of the old maf and plug it into the new MAF. You can Call DaveB and he will hook you up. Why is this thread even still being discussed?

1)Call DaveB and order new MAF (00 or 01 can't remember). Tell him what happened and he will know EXACTLY what to do ~$70. His number is in the FAQs and my cell phone (pm if needed)

2) Get part take 5 minutes to transfer resistor

3) Drive away.

its not a resistor, its a thermistor. yes, i did that already. did you forget to read the thread again?

i get it cheaper than daveB, and i get it the same day.

the thread is still being discussed because you made a post in it, and now im replying to it. im not worried about the maf, i was simply commenting on how a car goes so long on the original maf with no problems, and then i buy the car and a week later it fails. its really no big deal.

last i heard, it was $80, but doesnt matter, i got it for $68

2) Get part take 5 minutes to transfer resistor
and another hour to extract broken bolts, drill and retap. you really DIDNT read the thread did you?
