Ok, I've been away from this site in AGES and a lot of searching (doesn't help that search here is disabled) didn't turn up an answer... So, I'm sorry since I'm sure this has gotta be a repeat.

Did Nissan ever extend the TSB below so that anyone outside the 3 original states can get it for free? I remember it applied to NY, NJ and one of its neighboring states.

http://www.nissanhelp.com/Ownership/.../NTB05-035.htm

AFAIK, HID theft isn't a problem in Nor Cal... but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I know it pretty much covered all of the northeast. I had mine done on my 02 without even asking. Went in for service and they did the data dots for me. Purchased my 03 in Rhode Island and it already had the data dots done. When i went to Florida on vacation i made it a point to check every 02-03 maxima i saw parked to see if it had data dots stickers and not one did........So i don't know if they offered it outside Northeast but not 100% sure

my dealer looked liek I was speaking in Greek when I asked them about it. They quoted like 200 bucks just to install it. But they were clueless about everthing.

Not in GA. It is a regional TSB and most dealers don't know about it including mine. Damn bastards.

They put a sticker on both front windows and stickers on both headlights...If you have data dots you'll notice the black data dot stickers on your front windows....

So because I live in New York the dealer will perform this for free? I didn't see that mentioned on the TSB so I thought I'd ask.

My Maxima was previously leased in Long Island, New York...there are no Data dots stickers to be found either on the headlights or front windows

I'll clear my lenses and put in some angel eyes before I get the car taken in for the recall

It's actually not something you can see just looking at it. From the top down, it looks normal.

If I can find it, I'll PM you the letter Nissan sent me and every other 5.5th gen owner in the recall area. The only thing I can think of is that the recall notice has expired???

If the recall has expired then what about those guys who have recently bought their 02/03 used maximas from the dealership. how does the recall work for them... I just recently bought my maxima a month ago , knowing about the light .. I when to the parts department and they were chargeing me 150$ or somethin in route 1 sansonic automall in New jersey. If its for free ( someone mentioned above earlier )PLEASE LET ME KNOW.. i'll install it myself. And for those who have it installed. Could you please post some pix just so i can verfiy that i have it on mine or not. Btw i have th Data Dot stick on my headlight.. but I am still not satisfied with that.. I need to see the metal brackets for myself in order to be satisfied.

If you have the stickers, more likely than not, the recall was done already. Looking at the lights with the hood open, you can't tell, but if you take a flashlight and look down at an angle, you can see the brackets. I'll try to take a pic of it when I get home.

Well thats true when i was in miami I saw NO cars with the data dots. When i called the dealer they told me that they discontinued the bracket because thiefs where still taking them. They also told me that one of the reason that they discountinued them, was because it was cousing more damage to your to your car.

The recall was not for Florida anyway so why would the dealership tell you it was "discontinued.?" Maybe I am misunderstanding you. You called a dealership in FL or a dealership in the recall area ie. NJ, PA, NY etc?

It doesn't really matter if you have the anti-theft kit beacuse they will steal them any way. They stole my right side headlight and damaged the left trying to pull it out when I still had the anti-theft kit installed (both bracket and data dot stickers). Don't waste your time or money that's why we pay insurance.

Any pics of the damage? I'd like to see what kind of damage was done.

This really sucks.. .we can't do **** about the light.. even the brackets don't work.. then where is the protection... I can't think of any solution now.. I was thinking of installing a Clifford two way responder on mine but its not the solution to a factory mistake. While we look for solution here and there. We still on the verge of losing our headlights.

We're not the only ones dealing with this. Anyone with HID's is in danger whether it be Audis, BMWs, Mercdes, Infinitis, Porsches etc etc. If it's not the lights, it's always something else. I remember a few years ago the big thing was stealing airbags.

I called DaveB and asked him about the Data Dots and he didn't know about it. I think it is only for specific areas.

I was talking to the service advisor at quirk nissan in mass. and he told me that the data data tsb is still in effect. If you have a 02-03 maxima they will do them for free. What he told me is that most dealers don't wanna do them if your not having anything else done (aka not making them any money). my suggestion is to take your car in for some other repairs/service that your gonna pay for and then ask them to do the data dots. Dont'' know if its gonna work but this is advise i got from a nissan service advisor
